ULEZ Letter

The Green Party support this saying "If every Londoner drives an electric car we won't tackle congestion, air pollution or the climate crisis.”

Erm… so why are we bothering with EVs exactly if not for the environment?

Because it's nowt to do with emissions and the environment, it's all about raising money. Next one will be Burnham doing it in Manchester.

Would make sense if it was cheaper for EVs rather than totally exempt. £5 a day instead of £15. Or £5 for small EVs and £7.50 to £10 for a larger one.

EVs aren't a magic bullet for the environment. Lithium and cobalt mining can be devastating on the environment of where it's dug up.

Car ownership needs to reduce in cities and pooled vehicles can be used instead.

Not sure the Greens statement makes sense about air pollution unless she wants action on another contributor to air pollution.

EVs don't cause air pollution.

If we had congestion and it was all EVs then of folk want to sit in it that’s up to them. I don’t get the logic to say we will charge you to waste your own time. I get it with petrol/diesel cars and I understand how EVs can cause fossil fuel cars to be stuck on traffic but surely we want to encourage them - like you say even half price is better than full whack.

There is certainly a pay back as EVs do have larger upfront environmental costs.
