Sometimes you have to take a step back. Looking at the press conference objectively, one or two of the journalists did an excellent job in getting Cook & Mancini to reveal things they'd rather have kept under wraps, notably the appointment proceess, the top 4 target, and the conditional nature of the new manager's contract.
I'm not defending or attacking the press. This will all blow over in a few days.
As an organised press conference, it was poor from City's point of view. The briefing at the beginning took ages and then, after it was made absolutely crystal clear that Cook would not be answering questions, he did!
Garry Cook has never seemed impressive as an executive manager and he was at his shaky best tonight.
No doubt the papers will be full of headlines about cover ups, cock ups and conspiracies tomorrow. Just see it as the ineviable outcome of a poorly run press conference. By 2010 ( only 10 days away) it will be all but forgotten.
