Uncut magazine - Top 500 albums of the 80's

Absolute classic that one mate. For records like that not to make top 10 along with The Police is criminal.
BIA top 10 of the decade? No way in the world.

Which Police record? Synchronicity was all the rage when it came out (as was U2's Joshua Tree) and I still like it a fair amount though I've heard it 8 zillion times. I always enjoyed Ghost In The Machine just a tad more (Omegaman and Darkness should have been hits). I like Regatta De Blanc too; 2 and 3 were good but not as good as the others. Pretty strong body of work if you ask me. Copeland still one of the most underrated rock drummers.

She married you didn’t she ;-)
Seriously though she's always been more intelligent than me. Came 1st in A stream at school etc, she was a nursing sister in her 30's and one of her colleagues took the requisite study to become a doctor. I told her she should do that, easily clever enough, very good at the sciences etc. (I'm not, nowhere near) but she didn't want to be neglectful to our kids for 3 years.

Her music taste is anything you can dance to basically, so 70's disco etc. When I listen to my (more serious) music she calls it "miserable music" I sometimes think she is right :)

With all this debatesurely this is a case of calling @BlueHammer85 to start the piece of work on the Bluemoon top 500 albums....Think he may need a bigger spreadsheet!

Laughable list.
Police, Dire Straits sold bucketloads, Sade, INXS, Bob Marley, all made better albums and huge sellers than that laughable top 10.
Interesting and contentious list, and utterly bollocks. How can you compare the genres of Rock/metal with easy listening. It’s a bit of fun but I’ve been around for a bit and even I don’t know who the hell half these artists are. If Uncut did another poll from the 70s they would have the Wurzels in the top 10. And a good shout for Jason Donovan in the 90’s. Pure arse of a list.

If you had read the message i was replying to, he was wondering why certain albums that sold by the bucket load were not on the list.
I was merely saying selling bucket loads doesn't necessarily make it a great song / album.
It doesn't necessarily make it great music (agreed)... but it makes it what the majority of record buyers want.
Otherwise it wouldn't be a best seller.

If you prefer The Smiths to the person who made the biggest selling album of the 80's...Michael Jackson, that is your prerogative, but if you start saying publicly that The Smiths make superior music to Michael Jackson then that is musical snobbism as there is no Richter scale to say which is superior. AND the record buying public voted with their feet for Michael Jackson.

It's more to do with what it is fashionable to like now.

Somewhere Back in Time and 7th Son by Maiden not featuring, but Bleach did by Nirvana.

Bad by Jackson ticks a lot of boxes and is left out. They included Bauhaus' moan but forgot the golden rule in the 80s, if you want to pretend to be cool say you like New Model Army.

I haven't mentioned The Smiths once in the thread apart from saying compilations shouldn't be included.
Sales should never be a guage as to determine quality otherwise the karaoke pop idol / X Factor winners will be in the top 50
