Sorry to burst a few bubbles here, but Sam is going to be as much in the FA's pocket as Hodgson was. Has everyone forgotten that unpleasantness about 10 years ago, bungs, bribes, dodgy son agent, writs being sent round to the BBC in taxis.....that never arrived. That was all SA my friends, and the sweeper role was played by the FA. He is right in their bin.

I read his comments to say that he'd be considered only where Utd pick him. He didn't rule him out, but neither did he needlessly make him captain and ensure his place.

It may be that he plays him anyway, which if he justifies it, is not really a problem. We won't know until probably 3-4 matches into the qualifiers. I expect the tam vs Slovakia to resemble the Euros side.

You are absolutely correct. Granny shagger is the correct name for him.

I think wazza is the default big name that FA types expect to see in the team. What would do it in for him is not so much Big Sam but some decent midfielders and strikers moving clearly ahead of him. I'm not saying he deserves to be in the team, but Harry Kane did not have a good Euros and Vardy is a one trick pony! Ali also needs to step up for England. Only when these other players start performing will Wazza drift away.

True, but the alternative is needed to judge it.

"He's bobbins and fat, never in a million years" - possibly accurate, but unlikely.

He's not going to say the most recent captain is out of contention, as that leaves him closing on McLaren Syndrome as a hostage to fortune.

England could really do with a big name being dropped for lack of form. Shake them a bit. Then we'll see if Fat Sam has some teeth.

I think it sounds promising that players will be judged based on the position they play for their clubs. It suggests he's not going to be playing players out of position, like so many other England managers.

As for the whole Wayne Rooney shirt sales thing, there's only one way you increase shirt sales, and that's by doing well in tournaments. Or by having a cool shirt like Croatia.

Theres no way the FA will allow BFS not to let him get it. They'll already have the commemorative plates, t-shirts & logos made up and ready to roll.... not to mention the 17 different BBC documentaries....
