If there's even a scintilla of truth in this (and it would certainly explain a great deal) it shows how far Mourinho's stock has fallen since his experience at Real, if he took the united job with that restriction in place.
I cannot think of any player in a mourinho side in the last few years who comes close to Rooney style of play.no goals practically no assists no tackles no mobility..but the biggest wage earner in the entire squad.
The only time he spent time out of utds team was due to the "nasty ankle injury" under van gal which was of course bollocks and more due to a two week suspension after a dressing room fall out with the manager. There was also the turning up unfit to train episode..
It's like watching a car crash every week watching this faded star amble around the utd midfield.embarrassing.

Their total debt is now around £500m which is £90m higher than it was at the last year end. That cost them £20m in debt servicing costs, compared to £35m last year. This implies they're relying much more on overdrafts than longer term borrowing but it won't be possible to be sure until the full accounts are published.

Their bottom line profit was just over £36m and we should easily beat that thanks to a decent profit on our transfer dealings. Even taking that out of the equation for both teams, we won't be that far short of their profit figure.

As you rightly say, a high turnover is one thing but making sure you have enough cash to cover your operating costs and fund incoming transfers is the most important thing for a football club. That's what nearly killed us in 2008.

The cash position at the end of June should be about as healthy as it will ever be as all season ticket income is in and the bulk of the domestic and European prize money. Some more comes in arc the start of the season and some in January but the the rest of the time a club is living off the fat. It won't have helped being dumped or of the CL & then the EL so early. That alone probably cost them £50m in potential list revenue.
Bottom line - cash is king. The thick rags don't get that simple concept.

.......Second half was even funnier for me. Everytime their press forced us to go long, they cheered like it was some kind of victory.
The mighty Yoonited, biggest bestest club in the whole world resorted to cheers every time they managed to get us to play the highly prised occassional long ball.
........

Only for them to then lump it back the other way without even a whimper ... Talk about irony

Some of them still think they will pip us to the title as we have the CL distraction. Suppose they assume Thursday football is'nt.

I still maintain my pre season prediction that they will again struggle for top 4 this season.

Bbc saying peg is giving scum players a day a off once a week fuck me you would have thought he would have picked a week day giving them Saturdays off is a fucking joke

And long may it continue!

Talking to a rag last night who goes to the games (I know, a fucking rarity). He said he was in awe of the way we played, also that he looks at Peggy and thinks he's lost something? In his own word words "There's an emptiness in Jose. Like he's grieving"

mkhatayran throwing his toys out of the pram over being played in the wrong position. I would too, how can you have a player who produced stats like he did in the German league sat on the bench and play the walking blob that is Rooney?

Whoever turned Rooneys head at City in 2010 when he chucked a transfer request in should be given a pay rise. Having Rooney at United on the daft money he's got has caused more damage to them than us actually signing him.

May have been the plan all along....

He's not alone there - most of us are too. I had Danny Kelly on TalkSport on Monday morning from 6am. He was very effusive in his praise of our play in the first half. On Tuesday also, he mentioned it again. Also I've seen comments that the first half was the best display of football ever seen in the Premier League. And to think that this is just the beginning too!

I have a few colleagues who are United fans. Most think they were unlucky. Fine by me, let them believe that, and they won't need to address any of their problems.

They've made the classic mistake of buying the best players available instead of the players that they actually need, a lot like Hughes did with us with all the strikers. As a result all their attacking players want to play in the same position, that free role with two midfielders behind them. But they don't have two decent CM to play in behind and then they are sticking with Rooney as the player with the free role, despite him obviously being shit. So Mikhitaryan, Pogba, Mata, Herrera and even Fellaini are just randomly bodged into different positions that they aren't suited to.

Most of the team they played against us was out of position, Blind at CB, Valencia at RB, Pogba and Fellaini as holding midfielders and Mikhutaryan as a winger. It's bizarre that they've let them get into this position

Messed things up with his big love Chelsea and now shacked up with the local tart everyone fancied years ago when she was a one man woman but now all the make up in the world can't hide her wrinkles

fuck 'im!
serves the **** right for joining them in the first place.

only a few games into to the season and the ego carcrash we all predicted (or rather, hoped for) is beginning to happen.

I know a coach who has the balls to play Pogba and Mkhi as two free #8s behind a mobile striker (Martial better suited than Ibra) and play Rooney or Herrera or a ball-playing midfielder (not Fellaini) as the #4 behind them. MU will be lot more attacking, attractive and will still win more. And all the attacking technical players will love to play for such a coach.

Spot on that.
