Amazing how many united fans are claiming some kind of success after yesterdays game - "Yay we didn't get battered!" No wonder they put on a performance like last night if not being smashed was the full extent of their ambition. Somehow we've been fooled into thinking united are plucky underdogs despite having the bigliest squad of footballers ever.
They basically played like a non-league team - roughing up the better team and hoping to catch a bit of luck when the chelsea defenders fell asleep watching their team dominate only Lincoln had more of a go at it. For the Costa free header that he should have buried you can see the united centre halfs so intent on fouling the players they are marking that they don't even see Costa making the run. The funny thing is it is the united fans that are being mugged off. They should be demanding better. Huff and puff will only get you so far despite how the media overstate those qualities. At least they tried seems to be the positive message coming from them when trying should be the bare minimum. And at least they tried to do what? Trying to not lose is very different than trying to win. The game has moved on and left that shower behind.
But what at the end of the day could we really expect? After all they have that crucial game at home against those european giants Rostov in a couple of days. A game that they have an away goal advantage in. Whatever happens I hope united fans can come away knowing that at least they tried. When your football is dominated by fear and not by freedom then just trying seems like bravery.
