Yesterday came as a very pleasant surprise. That had nothing to do with the way City played. But I was delighted to see that our red brethren could perform far, far worse than even I could ever imagine. We all know City can reach standards of excellence way beyond other teams but I don't know how well we played yesterday because it was impossible for that City team ever to play badly against the load of rubbish that "the team in red" fielded. Funnily enough I exclude their 'keeper from this judgement because he did save them from a metaphorical ritual castration. But even here the contrast with our own Eddie was stark; Eddie also made a brilliant save, after almost complete inactivity, and apart from that he strutted around like some top NFL quarter back finding his wide receivers at will. To crown it all though, we were so totally in control, so crushingly dominant, that our little friend Anthony couldn't help but show the world that far from being a gifted player, he is no more than a deranged nutter. And then there is "Bruno". Bruno even turned Gary Neville into an inspired prophet when Neville told us that he knew what to expect from him for the rest of the game: frustration, moaning and a lot of whinging. That is Manchester United's captain! The frustration expressed itself in a wild kick at Doku, just like that leering psycopath from Brazil. United are getting increasingly good at losing. It is a pity some of them have no idea how to lose with grace and dignity. Still ETH thought they played well and moaned about the penalty. What would he have thought if Tierney had consulted VAR and given us the penalty he gave the rags in the cup final!
