So who do you play...Gonzales cant cover 3 players.....

Savihno aint the answer at present...he is skillful and a good player but he aint exactly ripping up trees...we only notice him as the rest of the team are so poor...he aint even close to how good Sane was for instance in his first season....or sterling
Look what happened when Doku came on...they got more chances on that side of the pitch than the rest of the game.

So if we aint playing KDB, GUndo Kova and Bernardo who do we play

what is your midfield for that game

Mine would have been:

GK
Back 4 (the only change here is I would have played Khusonov at right back )
Nico Bernardo

Marmoush

But after that we are starting to look at 3 groups of players....
1. KDB, Gundo, Kova - everyone knows they aint good enough anymore
or
2. Sav, Doku and Grealish -the first two are ok but are high risk players who so far we are being generous about with their overall contribution..Grealish has been shit for 18 months - people still believing he is the answer are just blind and are unable to admit the club made a mistake in buying him
3. foden - clearly has issues and aint playing well

So who?

3 4 1 2 or 3 4 3 with the following as the 3 - 4. Nunes & O'Reilly provide width, 3-2 build up
Khus Dias Gvardiol
Nunes Nico Grealish O'Reilly

Front 3 is just who you fancy

Major overhaul for next season just to challenge for top 4 I think, don’t think we will get it this year.
Agreed. Decisions to be made at least at GK, RB, LB, CM, AM, RW, LW….

Were not fixing it in 1 window obviously but its a shambles its been allowed to get to this…

Disagree. Omar is better than Jesus and Alvarez who both won lots with us.
But it's all about opinions
What makes you believe he is better than Alvarez?

Alvarez is a top class striker and has proved that both here and now at his new club....Marmoush looks good but I dont think he is as good as Alvarez....yet...and Alvarez is younger

If we hadnt have had Erling Id have Alvarez over a lot of other strikers our there...you have to remember Alvarez played out of position quite often for us....

As everyone else has said, it was absolutely dire. For a team trying to qualify for the CL playing away at a team who are struggling for confidence and form it was a really poor effort. I know Derby Day is different, but we went onto the pitch to conserve energy and try not to lose the game.

I cannot think of a single positive from that game. It was completely boring and all we learned - again - was that if you play old men in midfield they can't run the game. If Nunes is MOTM then you know it's been a dreadful game, and he was MOTM.

The season is heading for a real write off and as much as I love Pep, some very difficult questions need to be asked about the season as a whole, not just today. I honestly think he's just given up and maybe with the injuries he's thrown a wobbly. He just does not seem to be trying anything at all. He does not seem to be able to get anything from these players, has no idea on how to improve anything and has no idea on how to change tactics. We are constantly relying on players who frankly aren't good enough or fast enough to play in this league. I bet Casemiro was made up to see our team sheet.

A good, focussed manager might accept we are going to struggle this season. However, surely they would be planning and building for next year. Playing Bernardo, KdB, Gundogan, Kovacic etc teaches us nothing. Playing intensely slowly every game is still leading to injuries and all we learn is that it's not working. Quite simply, he has to show that he has the desire, hunger and determination for next season otherwise the unthinkable has to happen. If we play like this next season, we will be midtable.

Maybe I am overreacting, but that game today was dreadful, and it summed up the entire season.
I'll give Pep next season. He's got more than enough in the bag to justify that but my god he needs to wake up.

Why can't he see that the mix of this players don't have it any longer. He's utterly baffled by the fall off.
To be fair, so am I. But what I can see is Nico, Kush, and a couple of wide players along with Grealish offers so so so much more that the shit we saw today.

Questions for Pep
1) Why did you not play Nico?
2) Why did you not play Khusinov?
3) Was it wise to play Gundo 3 games in a row?
4) The Uncs were sticking the place out why didn’t you see that and make changes?
5) Did it make sense to take Nico O off who was having a good game?
6) Why put Rico at LB totally out of position?

Oh and the rags are total garbage who don’t appear to have improved under this new manager.
Sadly, they look like a team with a new manager, some young talent, and improving, while we look the EXACT OPPOSITE!

They weren’t total garbage and they have improved this season. With much less possession than we had, they were the only team that looked like winning!

That’s an indictment of exactly what we have become this season. Far too many players dropped off a cliff as far too many others have struggled with injury.

That combination has “ruined” a season that could still return the FA Cup and a CL finish, but it’s a long way from here to there!

I don't think the problem is the players as such - we know most of them are good players. However, the midfield have no legs at all. Bernardo, Kovacic, KdB and Gundogan - I can't think of a slower midfield in any other team in the PL, or even in any top European league.

Surely the most obvious thing is that you simply cannot play all these players unless you surround them with runners and pace. We don't do that either. The drop off with Foden is something else. He's gone from being one of the best in the world to frankly a Championship level player and we all know he's far better than what he's doing. There's just something that is rotten across the whole squad - and I think it's an order. I cannot honestly think of any player who's played at anywhere near the level they can do this season.

We used to press hard but now we don't. We don't run and towards the end of the game KdB didn't even try to win the ball back. If he's now that unfit he can't do it, why is he playing in these games with players who are just as slow and unfit? Only Pep can answer that one. To my mind, the team is under an order to save energy at any cost.

I am honestly not sure on the rules about squads and the like but honestly, if you are a right back at City and Nunes is picked ahead of you, find another club as he is poor at best. If Gundogan is better than you in midfield, move on as you're not good enough.

So, to answer your question I don't think it's just about picking different players, it's a tactical and attitude thing. There's absolutely no way that so many of these players can go from world class to this standard in less than a year.

We not been that bad, surely we expect more from the City team, but its what it is this season. The end of the day we had worse results at Old Trafford.

Marmoush, Gvardiol, Dias and Ederson stand outs for me today in a good way.

Midfield poor, Ilkay really frustrated me for a performance and body language. Kovacic and Bernardo been not much better, very sloppy, kept losing the ball in the dumbest situations.

Sad for KDB. The decision to make it the last season seems more and more on point. Around 77th min KDB lost a 50/50, which have been really like 90/10 in his favour, but he just gave up. Surely tried his best, but shots weak and straight at the keeper, passes mostly inaccurate. Legend though, been absolutely a pleasure to watch.

On the positive note. We have some easy fixtures now, so do not be to negative. We have good chance for many points and strong finish.
Next two are Palace at home and Everton away. Not a chance we get six points.

It wasn't the best I grant you. Very tepid in fact. We looked a bit ordinary but there's been 8 or 10 showings this season that were far worse. Going to take a bit of effort to get back to the top.

I think you are spot-on, We are brickle and fear the many collapses we have had this season, We need to feel the love again and learn to start enjoying playing without fear, today we could see nobody wanting the ball or demanding the ball and breaking the lines, City have become robotic and players having to play to orders, all it needed today was somebody to break rank and take the game by the scruff of the neck and win it.

We need just a little bit of magic and something to fall for us and build on it, It's just like winning, once you get used to it then it becomes a good habit and feels great, Losing the mantle of being Champions and 4 in a row to now losing most weeks becomes a habit a bad habit.

For me anyway, Pep and City are so comfortable of getting back the good habits next season, that many have turned off in the run-in, I do fear that its a gamble that next season will be fine and City will be back to our best

Reading elements of this thread when did we become so raggish and entitled. Pep is suddenly a Steve McLaren level coach… FFS. I think Pep has made mistakes but he’s earned the right to oversee a rebuild and we are lucky to have him. We need to keep things in perspective and show some LOYALTY.

He has overseen a bin fire since October and I’ve seen nothing from him to extinguish it, I’d rather he goes on good terms at the end of this season rather than be removed after ten games next season

What’s going to happen in this club World Cup thingy? We’re going to get pumped off Yokohama Marinos or summat!!
