United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Loyalty in football is a rare thing ? A manager lives and dies by the sword of results, but in Pep case he's got plenty in the bank to be loyal to his players because how can you sack Pep,
I agree you can't and anyone saying Pep out is being ridiculous ,entitled and over reacting , the best manager this club has ever had and probably will ever have , yes it's frustrating seeing a lot of these players past their best but hopefully a big summer ahead , Peps biggest challenge imo

Awful united team there for the taking.

Nunes was brilliant in a very poor team selection. I have no idea whats happened to Foden, he has gone off a cliff and fluffed a great chance to stick the pathetic mum chants down their cockney throats.

Best part for me was them singing about us being cheating bastards, I love the fact we are boiling the new bitters piss in bucket loads.

Someone must make some Blue 115 scarves, would make a fortune.

Disgraceful performance, no spirit at all. Changes needed for next season and on this performance we do not deserve CL football next season

City's New Glory Hunters need a whole new bluemoon site for themselves

Load of bollocks that. Easy in hindsight but why persist with Bernardo, he has zero goal threat and is physically piss weak. Kovacic, zero goal threat. Gundogan, offers nothing these days.

Nunes just not good enough, never has been. Especially at fullback, he’s a midfielder. Why not Khusanov at right back?

And why didn’t Savinho even come off the bench?

Fucking hell we don’t half need a reset and a huge transfer outlay on quality this summer. No more fucking squad fillers or old men or slow as fuck plodders.
That’s sounds harsh but it’s hard to disagree with any of that. Today was an eye opener for what we need to get back to the top. Hopefully Viana will get us some top quality midfielders.

Seriously fella don't across like that sort of chap "I've mentality built up over decades"....

Plenty of us have been watching City for decades, People have different opinions and that's fine, It would be boring as fuck on here if we all thought the same.

In that case, Three points is better than One point, Pep doesn't go into games looking for a point, We've all been watching Pep for years and his philosophy was always going into games to WIN...Today he was happy with a point, He went for the cautious approach.

Do I agree with that? No.

I think we should be looking to beat teams that are sitting in 13th or 14th place in the league table, They won 10 games from a possible 31...

We've won basically everything under Pep all because he went into every game wanting to win, For whatever reason he thought differently today only he knows.

Don’t question my mentality then.

Pep was sanguine with a point. So am I. It’s better than a defeat. He sees the team training, he knows the issues. He picks what he think is the best team. I trust him.

Maybe United could have opened up more because they were the home team ? it takes 2 teams to make a classic

Do we all think he's too loyal to some players due to all the success they've brought us ? Cos surely he can see not just in training but in games that kova , gundo, bernie and kdb are not what they were ? What was the point in spending so much in Jan if they cant get regular playing time ?
He can probably also see that Doku, Savinho, Grealish etc need 200 shots to score one goal. The problem isn’t just the old lot, it’s the new lot too! We are a mess this season.

Nico G is a concern for me if he isn’t getting picked when we have no DM.

Yes but don't hear it as much these days
Not in the stadium but it used to be sang amongst every home game in Mary D's, probably still is. I stopped going in about 5 years ago because watching mid 50's blokes singing Munich songs was cringe worthy and embarrassing, especially when they're singing it with their 20 odd year old sons.

If he has admitted mistakes then I am pretty sure that is on him. Playing kdb gundog bernardo and kovacic repeatedly together is on him. If he knows they aren't capable why is he persisting with them? Why is refusing to play with any pace, energy or direction? KDB time is up yet he played him and started him again today, what message does that send. We bought players in Jan who aren't getting a look in, they are the apparent future of the club. Not the old guard. Your post doesn't do anything to defend Pep, it highlights his errors of the season more
its not all on him....some of it yes but football clubs are not soley run by the manager...there are many inputs and Txixi and Khaldoon have a part to play in this...

He plays them as he knows the alternatives he has at his disposal aint any better - he aint refusing to play with pace....he has played Doku and Sav loads this season....but toay he chose to try and go for control...look what happened when Doku came on...they started to create chances down that side of the pitch - that tells you everything

who would you play instead of KDB? Foden aint cutting it, neither is Bernardo -Gonzales aint a replacement for KDB - and I do think he shoud have started but thats about it....

who plays instead of KDB and Gundo today?

You could have replaced Kova with Gonzales but what else?

The counterfactual is that with another manager and all the injuries we could be in the bottom half of the table or worse.

Well, that's a different point, and as it happens, I agree with you. On today, I think the match can fairly be described as disappointing. I don't think that's unfair. God knows whether the United supporters thought that was a good watch (I don't much care, but I can hardly imagine that they did).
On the season as a whole: getting to the semi-final of the F.A. Cup and being in the top five is not exactly a disaster, although it's obviously a bit of a drop-off by comparison with the stratospheric heights of the last six years. It was coming, in my opinion. We were due it.
That said: if we win the F.A. Cup and qualify for CL (in whatever position, I really don't care), well, you'd have to be a very entitled supporter indeed to say that that was a disappointing season. I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest. If we don't do either, well, that's not too great, but we reset, and we go again. I promise you that Pep himself will be disappointed, though: both with himself, and with the players. He virtually said as much recently when he said we deserved not one penny of bonus for the World Club Championship.
One other thing I'm sure of: Pep won't walk. The man makes mistakes on this or that match — I think he got his team selection wrong today — and he can be legitimately criticised. That's part of our prerogative, especially on a forum which is for expressing opinions (or nowhere is). But I for one am bloody glad we've got this man for the rebuild.
