United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Maybe United could have opened up more because they were the home team ? it takes 2 teams to make a classic
Haha I have seen this level of shit a lot this season. Blaming the other team for us being slow and boring. We are very easy to play against so why won't teams play that way. It is then on us to break down lower half of the league teams. The fact that we can't and so often says more about us than anybody else

Toothless, vulnerable.

Zero threat going forward, always on eggshells with them within 25-30 yards.

They played a hard 5-4-1 and were back in their shell within seconds of losing possession, but broke with speed when offered the chance.

A 100 year old midfield three created exactly what you’d expect…NOTHING!

Our attacking was summed up in the first half when Marmoush made 3 different runs while Gundo dithered on the ball, finally gave up, then Gundo long chipped it 10 yards past him and pffft!

The most passionless “Derby” I’ve seen in a very long time at a time when we desperately need to start winning 3 pts if we have any pretense of being in the Champions League next season.

Lastly, that team/performance would get battered by Forest at Wembley!
Even if we got into the CL this squad would last 5 minutes unless we have big plans to sign some real talent for next season. Would rather not be in it than be blown away.

We are absolutely turd mate. It's got fuck all to do with the opposition.

The opposition sit in and it's down to the low block.

The opposition play out and are expansive and it should suit us. But we still play sideways football.

We just aren't good anymore.

Seriously fella don't across like that sort of chap "I've mentality built up over decades"....

Plenty of us have been watching City for decades, People have different opinions and that's fine, It would be boring as fuck on here if we all thought the same.

In that case, Three points is better than One point, Pep doesn't go into games looking for a point, We've all been watching Pep for years and his philosophy was always going into games to WIN...Today he was happy with a point, He went for the cautious approach.

Do I agree with that? No.

I think we should be looking to beat teams that are sitting in 13th or 14th place in the league table, They won 10 games from a possible 31...

We've won basically everything under Pep all because he went into every game wanting to win, For whatever reason he thought differently today only he knows.

its not all on him....some of it yes but football clubs are not soley run by the manager...there are many inputs and Txixi and Khaldoon have a part to play in this...

He plays them as he knows the alternatives he has at his disposal aint any better - he aint refusing to play with pace....he has played Doku and Sav loads this season....but toay he chose to try and go for control...look what happened when Doku came on...they started to create chances down that side of the pitch - that tells you everything

who would you play instead of KDB? Foden aint cutting it, neither is Bernardo -Gonzales aint a replacement for KDB - and I do think he shoud have started but thats about it....

who plays instead of KDB and Gundo today?

You could have replaced Kova with Gonzales but what else?

So if you go for control why would you not play an in form Grealish? I'd have played him over KDB as he played well midweek and in his cameo at Bouremouth. If Pep is the brains behind all of the success, he must be accountable for this season too, or does it only work one way? I love how people seek answers from simple football fans, I would rather our handsomely paid manager, the one who is deemed one of, if not the best manager in the league to find the solutions. His solutions are rinse and repeat shite.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I commend Pep for calling out the Trafford fans for their despicable chanting about Foden’s Mum.
It’s a game of football for goodness sake not a war. Chant about the game, chant the players names. Sing the good songs but leave the families

Go and look at the 1960s/70s City vs United games, after the match, both club's players respect each other hugging laughing together and were rivals back then
Usually after they had given their all for 90 minutes and battered and kicked lumps out of each other. This is another derby that has passed by with not a single 50/50 crunching tackle going in. Im actually unsure if we've had any in the Pep era. Sometimes even just once it needs it and it always gets a crowd off
their feet and pumped.

I said earlier in the thread Pep is still being loyal to the players that have been successful for him over the years, Personally I think that needs to change.

We signed a holding midfielder in January, Yet he doesn't play him regularly and we still go into games without a holding midfielder, I wouldn't class Kovavic as a holding midfielder as he's not one to sense danger.

Grealish was our best player against Leicester and chipping in with a goal, Today he's dropped, Surely that's completely soul destroying for him.

Doku has been our main threat over the last few weeks, Possibly our best player some would argue, He's also on the bench today along with Savinho.

We've players on the bench that's well able to cover ground, Also that can hurt teams whether it's by counter attack or a low block and they didn't get the nod today.

Pep played for a draw that's the disappointing part, He was happy to kick the can down the road and fight another day.
I don’t think it’s loyalty, it’s an acknowledgment that the older players are still on balance, our best players, despite how far they have fallen.

I’m quite sure he would play the younger players week in week out if they were better, but they ain’t.

I agree on Grealish though, he really should be playing more for me.

Mate, playing the old guard is one of the reason we are in this shit storm of a season. They have been chasing shadows since November. And nothing has changed simce then.

Take a chance on the younger lads. I'm sure they couldn't have done any worse.

Obviously a confidence issue but we look scared to death of giving the ball away as the outcome is usually a shot at goal for the other team. Only reason I can explain this slow, tepid shite that we are serving up.

Persisting with De Bruyne, Gundogan and Bernardo is an odd one. High chance none of them will be at the club next season so should maybe be showing a bit more faith in the ones that will be? Unless he sees nothing in them.

I thought Nunes did ok today but there must surely be somebody in the academy/u21 who is actually a right back that can be given a few games rather than this constant square pegs in round holes.

I knew they would cause us problems having watched them against forest, even though they are shite.

We are lucky they are shite because we made them look good. Too many chances.
Foden was shite, can't remember Grealish making an impact and same with Jeremy. All round tepid performance
I can't understand why Nico wasn't involved

I wouldn't want to be in the trenches with some of the posters on here.
You can't blame Pep for the injury crises this season. Nobody seen it coming and once the season starts there is fuck all any manager can do other than juggle with the players who were half fit and those that are fit. We were flying before the injuries kicked in.
Alright we signed some very young talent in the winter, but they are going to need bedding in and get up to speed on our method of play and getting the right balance on the pitch. This is top level football not Sunday morning on Hough End. Don't forget Rodri wasn't showing much in his 1st season, now he's the best player in the world.
Stop being like bratty kids throwing your toys out of the pram.
At present Ake, Akanji, Stones, Walker all missing in defence, Haaland and Rodri not sure of their returns. A machine can't run with parts missing. It's no different for Pep, he's had to bodge teams together each week putting square pegs in round holes. Just when we think the injured players are getting back bit by bit another group get injured.
This is a major problem for most of Europe's successful clubs but is a lot more telling in the Premier League where every game is tough.
