United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Our away performances have been absolutely crap all season with the exception of the first two, Chelsea and West Ham and maybe Ipswich although they are shite so hard to tell how good a performance that was. We were fortunate to win at Wolves and at Spurs too. Some of the others have been dire. Home ones only marginally better.

How we still have a chance of CL is a miracle based on how we have played.
Yep
I suspect that the management are now focused on clean sheets for the rest of the season and hoping to sneak a CL place based on winning 4 games and not losing the others (especially Villa) whilst our rivals all beat each other

That's how low we've fallen

We really missed the big man..
Did we? I keep hearing this but he is only as good as the service to him. He cannot change a game alone, he doesn't drop deep and offer a different style of play when we are struggling. He played in the home game where we created nothing and he offered nothing, like many other games this season. I love Haaland but we don't play to his strengths.

A quality attention seeking post right here, not quoting anyone, just a general rant off the back of nothing.

You didn't hear any of them fans complaining during bad periods because it was before social media. Opinions are more prominent due to not being able to move without hearing one. It is expectations, it is standards and having an elite mentality, not being entitled. It doesn't sink in but this isn't about winning anything. For myself personally I complained about our slow boring style whilst sitting top of the league. It isn't the fact we aren't going to win the league, the problem is the style of play, the lack of ideas, the repeating of the same mistakes and expecting different outcomes. He isn't trying to find solutions by playing a slow, old, ageing and out of form players over pace, energy and inform players sat on the bench. I only seen one poster mention the Bournemouth manager so a bit of a wild one to throw out there. Ultimately as I have said a few times now, it has to be better than this with our squad, we shouldn't be scrambling for a top 5 position after winning the league. We shouldn't be playing such crap football with the best manager in the game around surely. Should the man who keeps flirting with leaving, who delayed our rebuild be the man to start the next one which will take another year or so? That is questionable. His achievements are second to none, we won't have a manager deliver what he has ever again and all of our success falls at his feet. As does the blame if he consistently gets it wrong.
Can't be arsed m8.

Yeah I have noticed you are unable to listen to other opinions, take them on board and form a response. Have a cracking day.
To be fair his last post was to you, the one before that was in a music thread, and the one before that was about 5:30 yesterday and I thought was a very clear and well thought out post. Just my opinion

I don't know your trying too cover our own weakness with the Rags.

We are 6th and if we did not get off to a superb start at the beginning of the season would be down with the rags.

Like it or not they are starting to look better, where we are going knowhere, if you don't think we have major issues your dreaming.
No, not dreaming - we're having our first dip in at least nine years - elite teams normally dip in a fraction of that time. Hollowed out by injuries, players facing the inevitable march of time as age catches up, prime age players out of form. It's normal to dip - we've never had it so good for nearly a decade. You say Utd 'are starting to look better'. You're joking surely? Have you looked at their last five results - D W D W L D. How do those results equate to 'looking better' - especially from a club that's been splashing the megabucks for a hell of a lot longer than us? Your comment 'if we did not get off to a superb start at the beginning of the season we would be down with the rags'. There are no 'ifs, buts and maybes' now. There are no false positions - after thirty-one games every club is exactly where they deserve to be. D W D W L D Utd are down with the dead men because that's exactly where they deserve to be. I thought the new manager would have had them playing with more enthusiasm, the new manager effect. It hasn't happened. Points aren't awarded for 'starting to look better' - Utd could barely have looked any worse so any improvement from them is from a very low bar. Rodri will take maybe six months to get to anything like normal when he comes back, but his return is effectively a £100m new signing. I'm very optimistic about next season.

I look at it like this - after 31 games, every club is exactly where they deserve to be - no false positions, no ifs, no buts, no maybes, no cuddas, no shuddas. We're sixth and Utd thirteenth. Neither side can argue with that. Moyes built his pre-Utd career on low block, set piece footy and that continued at Utd. van Gaal - a pragmatist - tends to shape his teams to the players' skill set - Utd were already sliding into low block mode when he arrived and he continued with that strategy. Maureen made his name parking the bus and at Utd deployed that tactic against every decent side. OGS, Rangnick and ETH couldn't seem to get players out of that safety first mindset. And now they have Amorim. His own post-match words said it all. On live TV he said he set his players up in a 'low block' formation. This was Utd at home against us - pathetic! Other top coaches would have sensed that we're not at the races, weakened by injuries and gone for our throat. But they didn't - they sat back and waited for mistakes - and yes we gave up possession quite easily when high up the pitch allowing Utd to counter attack. And just like they've been doing all season they showed no composure in and around our area. That's why Utd are thirteenth. And that's why Utd didn't look more likely than us to score imo.
Rags xg was 0.92 our xg was 0.49, that does kind of suggest they were more likely to score. Or possibly had better chances to score but had shit strikers.

This season can't end quick enough for me (God knows how we,ll fair in this club world cup nonsense) regroup and hopefully get a bit of spark back next season.

The derby, more like a donkey derby if I,m honest, i can't recall in my lifetime such a dire game.

The only pleasure I've had this week is, (having discussed with several rags and agreed it was a very poor game with two very poor teams) pointing out the really sad thing for me was the realisation that we were/are as shit as Utd.

Takes any wind right out of their sails and struggling for a comeback.

It's took us 6 months to turn to shit whilst the rags are 10+ plus years still transitioning.

In short rags are going to be still shite long after we've regained our mojo ! (I hope)

Have faith.

I'm sat here reading all the arguments around City Vs Utd and where we should be and where they are.

I couldn't give a flying f*ck where united are. They are no threat or competition to us in any way and shouldn't be put in the same sentence when speaking about our team. It was another bad game and I've already moved on.
I love City and have done since the early 70s and no matter what, they will be my team when I do leave this mortal coil and in all that and future time I couldn't care less about any other team apart from City.
This past decade + has been a ride I would never have dreamed of or could have ever imagine. Last season was the pinnacle of everything we have achieved, Four in a row, best player in the premier league and Balon D'or winner just says it all.
We are allowed a bad period because being professional sportsmen, at the top of their game, collectively and individually, for such a long period, will eventually become a realisation and they will have a less impactful period. Now is that time and I would say to every single player that I understand and I am right behind them no matter what happens. I am ecstatic that they have brought so much success to our club and nothing will dampen that success for me.
The future is bright and it will always be Blue!!

They have been supported greatly all season during this bad period. We can say they've been playing shit on the internet though. Good post

Unfortunately I think Almaron will be a good manager for them if given time. Iv tried but I just can’t dislike the guy. Too nice for that lot.
He is trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear

It will just be how much time is needed to implement his style fully. I'm not buying this nonsense that they are looking better just yet though. They were only slightly less shit than us at the weekend. They've won 3 out of their last 11, Leicester Ipswich and Sociadad at home being their only wins.

They had better chances - purely because we attacked in numbers - albeit with very little success and their strikers did what they've been doing all season and bottled it when opportunities arose on the break. We play risk and reward footy and always risk being outnumbered when teams counter attack.
