United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Feels like there’s loads of reasons behind today. First regardless of what we think it was a much bigger game for them. They were fired up and at full strength.
Second our back four, struggle as it did against Newcastle at times, with Nunes out it was 3 young players and a creaking Ake. Ake struggled all game and he was the senior pro. Guehi will arrive a day or two too late.
Rodri was so isolated. We won the league in 23/24 with Rodri and Kovacic together in the run in. With Bernardo there instead we are hopelessly lacking in physicality. Hopefully we’ll see himself and Nico together because the league has got a lot more physical and we don’t have the players to win duels in midfield.
I genuinely wonder was Doku injured in the challenge with Dalot as he was awful after it.
Foden and Haaland need to rest, Haaland was outmuscled by the Argie dwarf and Foden was anonymous.
For me the jury is still out on our recent recruitment bar Donnarumma. Lots of promising signs but nowhere near enough consistency.
Spot on

If there was ever a time for a squad meeting, it is now. There is no hunger, no desire, no leadership. The fact we are even in at title race discussion, even if it's a stretch, is just unbelievable. Shame on arsenal for not pulling way already. Ar they trying to out-shit us?

Some of it is understandable..new players, injuries. But you don't win anything with performances like today. Get their full backs on a yellow, then back off? Are you insane ? Or just cowards? Pass, pass, pass , then a backwards pass to pay it safe, when we need a goal? Where's the personality, the energy, the desire?

Pep has these brainfarts occasionally. But it was compounded by a team hoping to coast it today. In a fricking derby! Criminal.

We will win nothing rolling into games expecting somehow to wipe our arses like today.

Yes it was a red. But even down to ten, could you see us scoring? Not acceptable, at all..

Well I've moved on from it already ... I've taken stock of the situation and Arsenal's draw tonight, and for me the chase starts with the Wolves fixture to overhaul their seven point lead.

On we go ..... but first to Bodo !

Thats how we all should treat today ?
United raised their game because City had problems at the back and they had VAR and the referee to back it up

The non-red card and sending off DOES change the game ? They would have had to take off somebody from the attacking midfield, but again, we will never know because the officials didn't do their job

We need a good couple of weeks starting tomorrow. First thing is the rotation in the Champions League tie, I would leave Haaland and Foden at home and on the bench in the Wolves game. Marmoush Semenyo Cherki Doku should be enough to beat Wolves and Galatasaray

He still.hasnt learned that the counter attack is our kryptonite. It beggers belief. I could see a mile away what united were going to do and with the make shift back four they needed more protection and rodri needed help. Terrible tactics and terrible decsion not to alter it. This is the pep that i cant stand, arteta knows it and plays accordingly. You need 2 holding mids against that otherwise your midfield is far to open and your high line is suicide.
Who would you have put in midfield with Rodri. I think the only option off the bench was O'Reilly.

Yep, we need to stay positive .... players and fans alike ..... after the trip to Bodo, a win against Wolves is the only thing that matters now, and this derby match needs to be forgotten, or doubts will remain ... the players minds need to stay firmly focused on the title..

I’m still unsure why everyone emptied out after the disallowed 3rd goal.
United won’t play as good as that again this season. Will City play as bad? I honestly don’t know anymore.

We were lacking Argentinians today.
This. We looked a bunch of soft fuckers. Case in point, Sunderland away, Savinho injured we kick the ball out to make a sub, they don’t give it back. Second half, they kick the ball out to deal with one of many suspicious time wasting injuries, we kick it back to them. Fucking soft.

Haaland getting stick but we’re just not looking for him, he’s making runs but we do the same thing over and over, knocking it out wide to the wings, surely it can’t just b KDB who can place a through ball to him

We’re so slow by the time we are ready to make a pass he’s got three defenders in front of him. If Arsenal are Set Piece FC, we are extra touch FC

Just the 8 - yes eight stories on the BBC sport website blowing smoke up the Rags arses plus of course another story on the News website ffs. Team in Red wins football match.

Wouldn't have scored playing until midnight

Today yes, and dropped the defence 10 yards. Its not as if we had overlapping fbs to make up ground. We had 4 defenders that havent played together, two are slow as and the other two are young inexperienced hung out to dry. With 1 midfielder thats not match fit and up to speed to protect them. Its no surprise they ran through on goal mulitple times. Then pep decides that allyne had to come off, put ake there, and nor right back to cover for ake. He knew what was happening but he didnt protect the defence or ask them to drop deeper. Ait nouri shoukd of come on, ake in cb and nor in with rodri. Infact id argue allyene would of been ok had he had a 2 man shield infront.

Not sure what Pep could have done tbh. It’s not like he sent the players out with the instruction of being shit.
Idiots calling for him to be sacked are pathetic.

Haaland and Foden were shit. The rest were meh, a mix of no pace or athleticism and a serious lack of desire. Most annoyingly though, they looked scared.

Semenyo isn’t a right winger, he needs to come in off the left or play as a 9.

Doku and Khusanov were good. Rodri still feeling his way back. Utd were far better and deserved the win so fair play.

Sort it out City.

Your first sentence is answered by yourself in your third paragraph :)

Bigger City games are coming up think and fast
Cup games and Champions League must be our best chances of silverware, but the title is by no means over.
I said it before, when the lower teams start needing points, the harder they become to beat and Arsneal dont really have a couple of game changers and will rely on corners and freekicks

We are effectively playing with only two midfielders every match when we play with a front four which is strange for Pep who has stated on numerous occasions he would quite happily have a full team of midfielders.

We made United look world beaters today and they simply played around us in midfield and always had the extra man.

The loss of Nunes today also left us with Lewis, Bernardo and Foden (then Cherki)….we can’t afford all three in the side at the same time due to their lack of physicality….the game has changed even over the last three years plus the other
players around them are not as good as previous.

Haaland was shocking today, but so was the service he received….we just don’t get the ball in the box, from open play or even set plays or corners.

Worryingly today, Pep just replaced the personnel at half time rather than change tactics to give us more numbers in the middle.

The other concern was the way we went back to the slow turgid side to side football without making inroads into the United defence and the high back line which could quite easily have resulted in a 5.0 defeat if not for Donnarumma and the offside flag.
