United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

HERE WE GO :

1. Well beaten by a team that had more passion, wanted to win every ball and were simply far better all round.
2. How Dalot never got a red fr that viscious challenge I will never understood.
3. Haaland and Foden (key players) both went missing AGAIN.
4. Big shout out for Donarruma who kept the scoreline respectable
5. Im a broken record, but Lewis is not a City player. He did well against Exeter - says it all.
6. It was their cup final. I remember many years ago when it was ours.
7. Still lots to play for if we can get our act into gear, something we managed against Newcastle less than a week before the derby. Its a funny old game.
No6 all day long.

Not disagreeing with you but I think Pep hinted a week or two ago that Ake was carrying a bit of an injury. Last season too I believe he had to play a lot of games while not fully fit. So yes, he’s not firing on all cylinders but at least he has bottle and commitment to the cause.

Rico’s also got a good attitude but he’s just nowhere near the expected standard full stop.

Ake like last season is playing with an injury.
I hate to say it but Rico isn't good enough to play full back and the most he can play is as part of a midfield against lesser teams in this league and in the Cups. Sad but true.

If the red card was given as it should have been then different result
I disagree. It’s nearly lunch time where I am and if they were still playing now even against 10 men we still wouldn’t have scored.
We had a chance to double up on 2 fullbacks on yellows but we didn’t, that front line really pissed me off last night.

Normally, when they beat us, we've been the dominant team on the pitch. This is the first time in many years when they've been the better side to go with the win. They raised their game for us, but the history of the season tells you that they don't play at that level as often as the price tag demands. I'd rest one or two for the Ch L - some are in need of a rest.

Yep, all of Rico's best stuff has generally been around the box, with little interplays with other players. But the reality is that he's never getting to play in that position ahead of Foden, Cherki, Reijnders, etc. When he first broke through, he looked like a player that had a bit of talent and game intelligence, but was too lightweight and easily knocked off the ball. And unfortunately, he's still that player 3 years later, and doesn't seem to have developed that physicality. He's still lightweight and easily knocked off the ball to the point that a midfielder has taken his position at right back.

In one way it’s interesting to see the shoe on the other foot as United treat this as their cup final and we see it as just a defeat.Passionate fans will wish we hurt more which is only fair, but we can move on and bed Semenyo and Ghuery in for later in season, hopefully getting back more from injury, then target the cups, especially Champs league. That would suit me this season as we are not consistent enough to win league IMO.pity as Arsenal keep dropping points proving we could have romped it really.

Pep prefers to put square pegs in round holes, like he prefers to play midfielders like Nunes and O'Reilly as fullbacks, for me it just doesn't work, unless you are playing poor teams. Maybe they're good going forward but an accident waiting to happen when a team presses or uses fast breaks like United did yesterday.
When we bought Ait Nouri I thought at last a recognized left back but what happens is he sits on the bench for 90% of the game at United. He's hardly played even before Afcon. So why did we buy him ? Pep baffles me sometimes.
All the players we have bought in the last year and a half only one of them has been a fullback and we have never replaced Kyle Walker.
Defensively we have been weak all season. And we will remain so until we play proper full backs imo.
Agree. Has Ait Nouri even played at our ground. Why buy him and never play him ffs.

Good post. Time is running out for Foden. Beat a few players and have a shot ffs rather than playing safe and passing back. Is he under instruction or us he just not that good ? If under instruction Guardiola should be bollocked royal style !

Yes, well, it's very hard to point any blame before the match, so I'll agree.

If you disagree with any of the points though please say.
I just think it's too easy to blame the manager after the event. Doesn't matter how good a coach or manager is, you don't know how the match is going to pan out until it's been played. We don't have to many options at the back other than to play Ake at the moment.

Sure, Cherki's free kick wasn't good but no player gets it right all of the time, and the match didn't hang on that one moment. It's a collection of things, if Haaland's not 100% he's not going to perform at his best, we've all been in that situation.

We have injuries, we've played a tough match midweek, in fact all the last few matches have between pretty tough apart from the FAC tie, and we've played 8 matches more than them already. They had a change of manager which often gives teams a boost, a full week to prepare and so on. No one big thing on it's own but a collection of things that can make a difference.

And let's be honest, they haven't played like that for 18 months, as galling as it might be in this case sometimes you just have to give the opposition some credit too.

Foden should not have started any of our last few games and he definitely should not start away from home. Today he looked scared he would get shouted at by the RyanAir mob, hence he took the easy option every time, he went missing.
Foden’s a fuckin soft arse, goes missing everytime the going gets tough, I get just like in real life not every man is a hard man, but you can just see how weak he is & he gets bullied so easily, he’s become a luxury player & we can Ill afford that type of player at this moment
