United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

That was fucking gutless but not as fucking cowardly as the **** on VAR.

I'm away from home working, and surrounded by fans of all different teams, and not one person thought that wasn't a straight red for Dalot. NOT ONE! Even an Arsenal fan said it's red.

However, we were utterly diabolical in every single facet of that game.

Just back in...

I thought after they eventually scored that this could ugly and was really concerned that United
would have their 6:1 reverse. However, I swiftly
came to my senses realising that we were never
going to score today...
I've not looked in the matchday thread and not going to and if Rico parents are reading this I suggest they don't either. However, I didn't see the lineups til 30 seconds before KO and said I thought we would struggle without Nunes who
has been a standout player for us this season.
Donna and Khus I thought were only players who really played anywhere near their best. Semenyo
gets a free get out of jail card. The others were
very poor so Rico shouldn't be singled out as too shouldn't Pep. We were that poor all round that
we needed United to make a mistake...Up steps Diego Dalot....Thankyou...However, we know we are refereed differently so that passed us by.......
In previous games, we could overcome shocking
officiating as we would have just gone up a gear.
Sadly, we"re not the top top team we were, where a couple of injuries wouldn't derail us. We just dont have the breadth of top quality but most other teams dont so we will most likely still be
in the Top 4 mix at end of season and still have
chance in CL and other cups but playing all the
games that entails is not going to be easy. New guys like Semenyo and Guehi if he signs need to
hit ground running.

I kind of had a feeling that this would happen today. New manager bounce. The United players very determined and desperate to impress. Fans optimistic. That sort of thing. City

At the end of the day, City were without their entire first choice back four. That played a big part. And Rodri isn't fully match fit, which meant that Nico Gonzalez was a further miss.

City looked tired after putting in a real shift vs Newcastle midweek.

Haaland was definitely carrying knock from the end of the 1st half. He's out of form as it is. Foden was very disappointing. He hasn't stepped up as a leader. His individual performances have been too hit or miss over the 18 months.

To be fair, Dalot should have been sent off in the 1st half. That could have changed the game completely.

The one thing I am sick of with City and Pep is the lack of fullbacks at the club
A proper pair of defensively-minded full backs. Some who have YouTube highlights of something they've done in their own half would make a change, and would turn things around overnight.

Other positions can be taught, but I don't think that I've ever seen a player 'converted' into a proper full back and I've been watching football since the 60s. You have the instinct, or you don't.

The squad we have is geared towards transition football.

Haaland, Cherki, Semenyo, Doku, Reijnders and Marmoush would all benefit from attacking in transition rather than against low blocks.

While our defence would be a lot more comfortable playing deeper.

While our midfield (Nico G, Bernie and Rodri) would all much prefer playing deeper and having the game in front of them than constantly chasing back.

Yet we have a manager who does the complete opposite and it shows in how poor our performances actually are.

The style of play we use does not play to the strengths of the majority - if not all - of our players yet it’s persisted with. Absolutely infuriating really.

Even today, the rags were desperate to play that way and we played right into their hands. If we sat back and used the pace on the counter to hit them; they would’ve been stuck because they’re poor against low blocks too. Yet we didn’t and got embarrassed as a result.

It’s really, really poor from Pep. Borderline neglectful.
Hard to argue with that

I think everyone was buying into him moving into a KdB type role and he just hasn't got it in him.
We kept being told he hates United and his track record against them is excelent

Poor but we have a lot of injuries.
My worry is the season is just going to peter out.

“They had more energy and intention. It always felt like they were close to score and we were never there.

"We gave them what they want. They took the game to where they are good and we are not so good.

"Since I arrived here in England we have always been a very controlled team. There was a lot of things missing from us. Definitely a bad day for us."

That’s damning from a captain. Well done Bernie.
