United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Good post. Time is running out for Foden. Beat a few players and have a shot ffs rather than playing safe and passing back. Is he under instruction or us he just not that good ? If under instruction Guardiola should be bollocked royal style !

Phil is an excellent player. It was Pep choice to play Ake who can barely run, at full back and Rico, who is also a liability. Playing those two, was a gift that they grabbed with both hands.

Yes. I still believe that he should have left after we won the CL. He's stale and his tactical / selection decisions are frequently open to question.
So you wanted to get rid of our manager after he had just won us the Treble!

United fans (rightly so) wanted Ferguson to get a knighthood after their treble, whilst you wanted City to get rid of Pep! I bet you was fuming when he won the league the year after to make us the only ever team to win 4 in a row!

Imagine wanting Pep to fuck off after he won us the Treble! If you want rid of Pep, you would have had a nervous breakdown in the Maine Road days Lavinda!

Fucking hell... frying pan and fire. Vinny isn't good enough. Ignore Bayern, look at Burnley.
He got Burnley promoted, then got offered the Bayern job and won the league! and has currently got the most points Bayerns have ever managed half way through a season!

So you want Pep out, and Vinny isn't good enough for you? can you let Kaldoon know who will bring back the good old days us us long suffering City fans please pal?

Ok. I’ll caveat it, unless Newcastle leather us at home. Which they have never done in living memory and have never looked like doing

For the purposes of the conversation, we are in the final. If we don’t get there, I’ll be front of the Pep Out queue
he knew full well what you meant pal! he just wanted to prove you wrong for some reason!

Well it's hard to say with Vinny yet.

Many managers have been promoted to the Premier League. Yes it's a good achievement but 3 managers do it every year. Some of them go on to keep that side in the league but Kompany didn't and he also showed no flexibility. Kept repeating the same tactics over and over despite clearly heading for relegation.

I believe you could put any one of the three promoted managers to the Premier League each season in the Bayern job and they'd win the league with them.

That's not diminishing vinny's achievements so far but I wouldn't be confident he can manage a top team in a very competitive Premier league yet.

I said it a few years ago and it's still the same. Pep doesn't take the derby seriously and uses it to rest and rotate players. Yes they're mid table cannon fodder but you still have to beat them
Stop Chatting Shit!

Pep is the only City manager to ever beat united in an FA Cup Final by scoring the fastest Cup Final goal in the history of the competition, whilst also being the only City manger to have two different players score hatricks in a Manchester Derby, all in the same season!

You need to give him some respect pal!

Beat when the first heavy challenge went in. Defo red even I could see it from our end!! The full backs were a worry when the team sheet came out. The gaps in the midfield was another big worry. And I might be wrong but do you think a few are saving themselves for the world cup? Not going to mention the 2 names but we all know.

Foden’s a fuckin soft arse, goes missing everytime the going gets tough, I get just like in real life not every man is a hard man, but you can just see how weak he is & he gets bullied so easily, he’s become a luxury player & we can Ill afford that type of player at this moment
Maybe you could get behind him instead of slagging him off because we lost against united!

Once a blue, always a blue. The kid is one of us!

This time he didn't.

On the ESPN site discussing VAR one of the comments was "Pawson probably didn't want to overturn the Yellow because it was a Derby and early in the game' If that summation had any semblance of what was going through Pawson's mind when reviewing the incident, he is obviously being influenced by external sources.
Having said that - Taylor should have reached for RED immediately - but we all know where his loyalties are.

Arsenal play with pace, strength and a decent level of skill. Most of their opponents play with pace and strength but with less skill. That skill gap is the reason Arsenal are top of the Prem.
We are still wedded to tactics based primarily on skill, which is great when it works but rather unsettling when we get clogged out of games or when the radar of individual players is slightly off. And those tactics just become impossible when the difference in pace is unsurmountable.
Arsenal also have two great or very good players in every position in their team. Can we say that in any position in ours.

He had no choice. Who would you have played at right full back? On the left, I think he chose Ake for his experience considering the absence of choice at centre back. We are down to the bone in those positions.

I was wondering if nico g could do a job there? Or nico g and CB and khusa at RB?

So many on here and in the media dismissing the red card. That decision was massive!
It gave them a lift and licence to kick us of the park knowing no repercussions and it would have given us a lift, no saying the result would have been different but like the cup final, no red was a game changer. Should we be surprised with Alty in charge? I’m even more surprised that one of the 3 offside goals weren’t given considering they scored one from 5 yards off not long ago. SCUM

I just think it's too easy to blame the manager after the event. Doesn't matter how good a coach or manager is, you don't know how the match is going to pan out until it's been played. We don't have to many options at the back other than to play Ake at the moment.

Sure, Cherki's free kick wasn't good but no player gets it right all of the time, and the match didn't hang on that one moment. It's a collection of things, if Haaland's not 100% he's not going to perform at his best, we've all been in that situation.

We have injuries, we've played a tough match midweek, in fact all the last few matches have between pretty tough apart from the FAC tie, and we've played 8 matches more than them already. They had a change of manager which often gives teams a boost, a full week to prepare and so on. No one big thing on it's own but a collection of things that can make a difference.

And let's be honest, they haven't played like that for 18 months, as galling as it might be in this case sometimes you just have to give the opposition some credit too.

All fair points and I generally agree. Pep can have the best tactical plan around, but if the players don't carry it out correctly, or make mistakes, then it's difficult.

Pep isn't perfect though, and neither are the players. Ake, for all that he always does his best, can't carry a defence any more. Pep seems a bit obsessed by having an older head in there, but that only helps if they are still top level. We'd have probably been better with O'Reilly there from the start - though having said that, he struggled to get into the pace of game and seems totally worn out. There was also Ait-Nouri now, and at least he is match fit now.

Cherki put in a similar ball in another game recently. That free-kick was too central to put in a cross like that. I'm surprised he wasn't told to work it wide. Bad crosses happen though, loads do them - I was more annoyed that by clearing it and getting past him they were more or less in on goal. That's a poor set up in a game that's 0-0 with plenty of time left.

Second goal was poorly defender all round too.

They were better than us on the day, but we were particularly poor. It's very disappointing but we just need to move on and start winning again. I'm not even thinking about the title - if we don't pick up a win in the next game or two then we'll going to start looking at what's behind us.
