United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I was wondering if nico g could do a job there? Or nico g and CB and khusa at RB?
I am sure all these thoughts are in Peps head. However continually changing players around would course more problems, I think.
It is such a shame, especially, Gvardiol who was just becoming the player we hoped for. We miss him in both boxes and his progressive forward play.

he took them lightly though, the amount of times they cut through our ridiculous high line away in a derby
i understand his philosophy and its served us well but horses for courses please....
Apart from the obvious another issue is the fact we’re just sat there compressed into their half and Haaland had no chance to stretch his legs. They’d have been terrified if he’d been on their shoulder on the halfway line waiting to breakaway. No wonder the one run he had he fucked up, he’s rusty as fuck from all the standing around.

He could do much more? Demand the ball, create your chances or for others, look how Kane plays in Bayern and how he connects with others and specially wingers, yes their wingers are much better, but thats not the point. Haaland could and should do much better for a so called best attacker.

He may have given up looking for runs to receive a long ball from the back because they never come.

If you lose possession with such a ball, the team is still set to defend. If you pass it around the penalty area and then lose possession trying to find a gap... See yesterday.

He’s a goal scorer, that’s literally all he does. We didn’t create a single chance yesterday for him, anything else is just white noise.

He’s not ‘the best attacker’, he’s the best finisher in world football. Expecting him to be anything else is just daft.

Last 2 performances there have been poor overall, thought Yoonitid wouldn’t step up yesterday after the first 20 minutes but we couldn’t keep hold of the ball and they deserved to win, unfortunately.

So it´s okay to just watch him stroll around for 90 minutes then? There has never been just goal scorers in Peps team ,you have to do more , even more when we don´t have so many classy players around him.

This was the main problem up front. We lumbered our way up the pitch then shuttled the ball left to right then decided to play a through ball that was never on and got mopped up easily. That was one of the many issues that affected us, it was a very bad performance from the team.

it was probably one of the worst performances under Pep , United made us look so ordinary yesterday. They created so many great chances and so easily and we didn´t offer much in attack. They outmuscled and played us fair and square.

I’ve taken the night to reflect on that performance and have allowed myself to calm down. I have come to the conclusion that it was just a completely and utterly embarrassing display from the club. Special mention to the players for showing they couldn’t give a toss if it’s a derby and putting up zero fight for the shirt. Not least Pep for his big game wobble putting Lewis in when he hasn’t started a league game since August what a great decision.

Horrible to admit but sadly true. They also approached it like a local derby. Can’t say the same for our team. Including the manager.

To lose against them is obviously pants but the manner of this defeat was the worse bit. Their 2nd goal especially was beyond dreadful from our point of view. We offered nothing, really disappointing all round tbh.

Doesn't matter how good a coach or manager is, you don't know how the match is going to pan out until it's been played
Last time I looked, a coach was allowed to change things around during the game?

Such as ditch such a high suicide line when it became obvious that it was just a big welcome mat. That decision should have taken 5 minutes.

Can't blame that tactic on either injuries or fatigue - in fact, they just make it even more unfathomable.

At the end of the day they spanked us
We need again to use this experience to be better and improve where required

We are always shit in big away games so I expect a few more of those to come this season (Chelsea, dippers, spurs)
Teams just outwork us

Right back is a big issue
We don’t have legs in midfield
Haaland is not doing enough in fact doing nothing and we don’t have an alternative
Phil needs to step up

Recent signings have been good, but we have lacked energy for two seasons now and that’s in the middle of the pitch

HERE WE GO :

1. Well beaten by a team that had more passion, wanted to win every ball and were simply far better all round.
2. How Dalot never got a red fr that viscious challenge I will never understood.
3. Haaland and Foden (key players) both went missing AGAIN.
4. Big shout out for Donarruma who kept the scoreline respectable
5. Im a broken record, but Lewis is not a City player. He did well against Exeter - says it all.
6. It was their cup final. I remember many years ago when it was ours.
7. Still lots to play for if we can get our act into gear, something we managed against Newcastle less than a week before the derby. Its a funny old game.
All decent excuses but from no Europe to possibly a place in the CL suggests it might not have been "their cup final".
However, for all the above points, we still created the grand total of fuck all. Defensive injuries I accept, but are Foden, Haaland, Semenyo, Doku and Cherki and Reinders (when they came on) also injured? The only shot their keeper saved was one that was going wide.
