United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I dont think Max was that bad at all. When a young player makes a bad pass everyone says he's a kid but players like Rodri were making bad passes so what's the difference. He shouldn't have been taken off. Pep got it wrong yesterday. The back 4 should have been Ait Nouri at LB, Ake, Max and Khus at RB. With Nico alongside Rodri in the middle. If Not Ait Nouri then why not start Nico at LB. We had 3 our of 4 of our usual back 4 injured and one available. And yet he didn't even start the one available which I honestly find truly unfathomable not to have started Nico or a real left back at left back. Beyond crazy.

Aké was a complete liability from minute one. He can't run anymore and he put everyone else under massive pressure. Amad waltzed past him at will, he didn't have the legs to support Doku either so he was doubled and tripled up on all game. Playing him cost us the match before it even started.

Yesterday had "last defeat of the league season" energy to it, like when we got absolutely battered by Villa during the 23-24 season but somehow only lost 1-0. Arsenal keep wanting to give us a chance of sneaking back into the title race so let's start with a refreshing win over Wolves and see where we are.

Donnarumma
Nunes Khusanov Guehi O'Reilly
Rodri Gonzalez
Semenyo Cherki Doku
Marmoush

Would love to see this team at the Etihad in a week's time (if Nunes and Gonzalez are back).

That's why I'm tempted to just park it as 'one of those days' and see how the team reacts against Bodo/Wolves.
It's the only thing to do now .....

No point in tormenting ourselves going back over that derby 'time and time again' in our minds, we can't change anything, it's gone ..... we can only focus on what's ahead, and try to come out of that positively..

Disgusting fat ****. Make him famous, the fat tramp deserves a slap

I was talking to someone on another thread who was Pep out, whereas I was saying he’s done a good job this season all things considered

Get Gheui settled with Dias, get Rodders fit and resolve whatever is going on with Haaland and we’ve every chance for the Champs League. We’ve already won in Madrid, so we have shown we can get results against very good teams

I can't take "pep out" people seriously. If Pep left City tomorrow he could take literally any job in world football and that club would sack their manager to hire Pep.

We need Guehi in and a settled back 4. Marmoush back. Ait Nouri integrating more. Finding the balance between Cherki/Doku/Semenyo in terms of selections.

Still fuming. I don’t get Pep’s strategy. When both their Fullbacks were on yellows Doku and Semenyo should have been running at them, yet they put on the brakes and passed the ball backwards. It’s a fucking joke.

One might think: given we played an entirely 2nd choice or partly 3rd choice defence at United, it's understandable we were a bit shit in defence; but why were we shit in attack as well?

The reason is that a Pep team attacks as a whole: the quality of the attacks depends on the quality of the build-up play, and the quality of the build-up play depends on the quality of the defenders on the ball and on their mutual understanding.

Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol and O'Reilly are levels above Rico, Khusa, Alleyne and Ake in terms of their quality on the ball and playing from the back. Even in his best years Ake was average on the ball and quite overrated by the crowd. Without other defenders who are good in possession he's lost. Khusa has a lot to learn in that regard as well.

So, being good at possession and playing from the back is foundational for the quality of our attack. The way to change that is to play highly direct football. That can work in some games but it won't win us titles, because being open to counters will mean many dropped points.

Pep has lost the derby on numerous occasions and it hasn’t been the defining point of our season. We are still fighting on four fronts with only Arsenal that can say that, still plenty to play for.

There’s going to be many more bumpy days during this rebuild and we can see improvements and a new emerging younger side. Hypothetically if Pep left who else could realistically do the job? Look at the emperors new clothes Xavi Alonso falling on his sword at Madrid.

Don't think we need Rodri and Gonzalez together at any point, especially at home to Wolves. I think see what happens with the CL game and then get a good attacking tempo up and running against Wolves.

So so glad that is over
What is the saying ? Yesterday news is todays chip paper wrapping. It's the same in winning, too

Never look back because we have so many games coming up that are bigger to the season outcome.
Champions League, League cup semi-final, FA cup, must be our main targets, then let's see in the league

It was such a bizarre performance all round. Semenyo did both, it’s the least i’ve ever seen Doku attack a fullback, Haaland was like a traffic cone, Foden’s abysmal form continues and the list goes on

Slot went from a title winning team that looked ready to "dominate" to fighting for 4th. That's after spending 500 million. Arsenal fans, even with a 7 point lead, don't trust their team/manager to get the title over the line. Wanting Pep out is basically akin to wanting to cut out your heart because you've eaten a shitty meal and have heartburn.

I knew he WOULD be a liability, even before the game started.....united just have too much pace for him, and unfortunately we seem to find the 'doubling up' skill difficult, which might have helped him out .... and I don't really know why Pep couldn't see that too.

HERE WE GO :

6. It was their cup final. I remember many years ago when it was ours.
Why would it be their Cup Final?
We aren't the team we were and are Champions of nothing in the here and now. It's not a rare event to get beaten anymore, in fact it's become all to common. Maybe we should try raising our game and odd time. Peps Derby record is poor considering how dominant we've been domestically during his tenure.

The main thing is that most of the opponents now play on the break, so a double pivot midfield doesn't work anymore unless you're super fast. Pep admits our weakness is behind and it's always been,

There’s only Louis Enrique out there I’d want in charge at the moment if Pep ever did leave. Be careful what you wish for.

There's also a good few other Managers out there that could come in, shake things up a bit and most likely win the league with our team with some fresh ideas, it's whether the succession planning for Pep has Us having another 10 Year Manager or changing every few seasons that I think is hard to know, I do think for what it's worth that Pep will leave at the end of this season if it doesn't go well, too risky going into next season with contract ending and too risky to potentially have 3 seasons on the bounce of us not performing, tough choices at the top!
