United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Even winning 1.0 its was a poor performance and where is the press and the closing down ? what was it 6 seconds rule about getting the ball back, United 2nd goal Nobody closed down Martínez and he had so much time to pick a pass

This is not an ageing team or a team with burnout, this is not a City team that walks and ghost games,
this is Pep happy to keep backing up his players and talk the talk without being asked THE QUESTION
Noticed this myself, it's like there was a 5 metre exclusion zone around the Utd players at times.

Anyone saying pep out honestly didn't deserve the last 4 titles in a row. Fickle fans- gve your head a wobble acting as if anyone on here has the first clue about football to the level these players/manager are playing at- self inflated opinions of yourselves and what you think you deserve to see-

We've had the occasional hiccup in our glorious era, Wigan, Monaco, RMadrid (last minute), Chelsea CL etc etc - but this really hurts and depresses even more. Totally deflating. At least then we were just a tweak away from greatness. How we have fallen so drastically from a position of strength and dominance is incredible.

I called them out at the game as well. I don't know if you were there or not and I'm not calling you out if you weren't,

but you see so much more live than you see on the TV. You see more of the body language, and the desire to win a 50/50 ball or close and attacker down.

But I do agree, and have been saying myself, that there have been serious shortcomings at the top level. Someone at the game today told me their pal worked at the club around the time of the takeover. Garry Cook called everyone together at Carrington and said that the plan was to win the CL and several PL titles by 2025. We've done that, but it's not clear that we reevaluated our strategy in the last few years. We've rested on our laurels and are seeing the outcome of doing that.

I've speculated there's more focus on CFG than on City itself. Txiki has admitted the failings. There's even question marks over Pep's ability to motivate these players. This is why this situation feels different and more dangerous than previous rebuilds when we've had to replace the likes of Kompany, Fernandinho, Silva, Ageuro and others. We actually did that and got even better but the replacements in the current crop look distinctly second rate. If we don't start getting it right, it could be a long road back.

Has felt like something changed in the transfer department 2/3 years ago.

Previously we were so surgical in the market. Knew which quality players they wanted and got them with minimal fuss.

Then for the last 2/3 summer windows the quality has been below the required standard, they've been doing haphazard bids for players like Rice, not filling positions we needed and settling for panic buys.

It's been very bizarre.

Thankfully Pep has worked miracles but with injuries the above situation has caught up with us.

He’s taking the responsibility, which is what any decent coach would do in this situation as he knows he’s only got the players he’s got for the time being.

It’s also him galvanising himself. If anything this run makes him more likely to last the length of his contract than not. We’re now his biggest legacy, the last think he’d want to do is to leave when it’s not a position to hand over to someone to keep it going or in the state it’s in now. That wouldn’t align behaviourally with anything he’s ever done at all.

Even if he publicly said “i’m considering leaving”, I wouldn’t believe him at this moment.
I can tell!

Seriously you make some good points but that interview seemed like he genuinely thought his time was up in the same sense that he has always said if he ever thought he was doing more bad than good he would know to go.

My guess is Khaldoon will rightly talk him out of it.

Well said mate.

When Nunes went flying into the back of Diallo I'm sure everyone thought 'I don't have a clue about football at this level so maybe Nunes did do the right thing'
