United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Just looking at the bigger picture.

We spent most of that 2nd half camped in our box unable to get out aimlessly punting the ball upfield. At home. To an absolutely shite United side.

The drop off from where we were 3 years ago is staggering.
The most surprising thing about this post is that two other tools have liked it

Yep, hopefully it is a permenant tactical option for us from now on.

I've always said united are at the most ineffectual when they have plenty of possession, they are at their most dangerous when the opposition have all the possession but allow united the chance to attack on the break.
Agree . Most teams have worked out how to pick the lock of our 70 % possession and high line . It looked messy at times but we invited United onto us , again and again and again , then let them peter out like a punctured balloon by packing the centre . Watching Haarland play his best game was mesmerizing . His second goal reminded me of the one he scored at the London Stadium on his debut when the PL league shuddered . World class .

Don't know if it has been said already, but after the abuse he got last season in the derby it was so good to see Foden shove it up them and have a superb game.
Watched a comp on his performance, and there was a noticeable increase in how many times he looked to play forwards, no doubt on instruction, he was the springboard for a lot of our counters, I know people have compared him to David Silva for years, yesterday I thought he was a mirror image

'After losing the match ruben amorim was asked, "What did you think of the performance today?", he replied "We we're....Blank!" To answer the question please welcome a lady with a great pair of Bristol City's Sam Fox!'
Brilliant, for those of us of a certain vintage, you can literally play out that scene …. then Barry Cryer holds up his card saying ‘Bobbins’.

At 3-0 we played out the game by allowing United to control the ball with no injury creating challenges. We allowed United possession out wide and their only attacking option was crosses which were easily cleared by our defence. We have Napoli and Arsenal this week so conserving energy and avoiding injuries was paramount.
United ‘s most influential player was Taylor who consistently avoided awarding us free kicks. Thank God there were no big decisions to be made.

Usual pattern. Keane piling in saying they're crap and Richards trying to dig em out. Embarrassing
I think Richards is an idiot, however if that's what he was saying, "United aren't that bad and not far away from being a good team", then let him get on with it and all being well the rags will "shtick to de-plan"

If Amorim stays they could go down, full will be complete for me if that happens. He’s not changing and they are shit, agent Southgate on standby, a rag mate said if he comes he will not go again oh how I’m going to keep him to that.

Two quite lovely goals from Haaland - there is an efficiency in how he scores his goals - placement over power which I think is possibly why he doesn't get more love. If he was smashing them in hard Aguero style then I think people (non City fans) would be ready to admire him more. Instead he just smoothly rolls or dinks the ball into the net and if he's not doing some kung fu move his goals look easy.

I've been calling for Khusanov to be in the team from the first YouTube video I saw. I love how disrespectful he is at just dismissively knocking over attackers and aggressively winning the ball. He will likely give away some free kicks in bad positions like he did today and I don't know if that will prevent Pep from playing him regularly but I think he has elite mentality.

Was weird not seeing Ederson running out and attempting to clear the ball for Mbuemo's offside shot.

Yet again we're listening to Neville moaning about united's system and their failings. The same thing after every loss.
Unless a team plays a 4 4 2, he'll always moan because that's all he knew as a player and when he won his medals it was all 4 4 2
It's like this when it comes to zonal marking from corners. He only knew man to man, he doesn't get it, so he moans and groans "i really don't like this zonal marking!"
He should be telling us the benefits of a system and if it fails, why it's failed, not just be totally against a system or tactic
This is exactly why he was such a disaster in management. He failed to adapt to the modern game and doesn't understand systems other than 4 4 2

Absolutely delighted with the win yesterday, my god it was needed!!

It was a bit of an interesting one as in the past when we’ve not been at our best our issue has been that we can keep the ball well but we are let down in both boxes. but yesterday we probably weren’t at our best in general play. There were a few spells were I thought we let United back into the game. But what we have is a world class striker and a world class keeper so now we look like in the boxes we will be strong this season. Just need to tighten up the possession play which I think will improve when Reijnders and Rodri get into their rhythm a bit more.

But when it comes to confidence that win will do us the world of good. The reaction to the Donnarumma save said a lot to me. The number of times last season where it felt things were going okay only for the opposition to suddenly score and then we panic but that save and then seeing all the defenders going over to congratulate him said to me that they thought “we’ve got this!!”

Bloody love a derby win!!!
