United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Statement win imo…..really wanted to see something different from Pep today and that absolutely fitted the bill !! If we’d have won by playing the same old way at the same old pace I’d have felt otherwise….

Haaland was unplayable…Phil was majestic, Khusanov implacable…..Donnarumma unbeatable!!

Having someone in goal who you have loads of confidence in can be hugely moral boosting for the defence….hope to see us build on this now

Upwards blues …..and RIP Ricky…I’m sure you’d have loved that game.
Wonder if Dias looking more dominant was down to that confidence

Brilliant result and performance today. On reflection it is evident that we are changing the style of play. Dominating possession yes but getting the ball for far quicker and sometimes going more direct. Certainly it will take time but very encouraging, suspect we may not win it this season but building for another sustained champions parade

Still room for improvement but genuine signs that this squad can do well this year.
Haaland very positive and active in both areas.
When Doku came to us his talent was obvious but he was raw and untutored. Today it looked like the work of the coaches is beginning to pay off. He was very effective and but for a crazy miss by Haaland he would have had a hattrick of assists.
Our new positive stance in the final third (less sideways and backwards passing) is much better and encourages Haaland into the mood.
Oh, and a brilliant save from Donna.
Much encouraged by our display, though it must be said that the rags are eminently beatable.
Well done boys.

quite a worry to be honest, no control over the game for most of the second half and how can united outpossess Peps team away from home lol.

They are shit, we removed their one asset of playing direct balls over the top and using the pace they have upfront by dropping back deeper and letting them have the ball until they predictably turned it over to us. Because they are shit.

A derby win is always great, and several players were brilliant, the midfield was the only negative as Rodri clearly isn't fully back yet and Reijnders was mostly ghosting, we can't have a midfield performance like that against Napoli and Arsenal, but for now let's enjoy beating the scum.
That's exactly what I said to my non PL supporting hubby. Midfield like that will be mullered against Arsenal. Apart from Kev Napoli are an unknown to me, iirc Raz putting a few past them in 2015.

Too many balls missed in midfield, no out ball.

But on the plus side Erling was in beast mode today. Played his best game in ages. Give him the captaincy. I don't often praise him but he looked like mojo had returned.

Phil played well and how refreshing to keep a clean sheet. I'm very much liking Gianluigi, infact I just love his name. He's a top goalie.

However I am not getting carried away, after all it was only the Rags we beat.

Work needs done on midfield immediately, not helped by Cherki and Kova being injured.

I loved Kush as well, that boy is a warrior in the Zab mode and should be one of the first names on the teams sheet.

Well done but far stronger tests to come this next week.

But for now, Manchester is Blue.

Ricky RIP will be smiling in heaven x

Our spine can now be Donarumma, Gvardiol, Rodri, Foden, Haaland which by any measure is world class

question is can we find the balance around them? still not convinced about Doku, Savinho, Gonzales, Reijnders, Bobb. A lot of is just youthful promise.

Silva done nothing today to convince he should be in the team in that position, he had lost that dart of speed in the first 5 yards and now just gets bossed off the ball immediately. remember when he used to smash it in long range out of nothing? no chance of that now

Marmoush looks good enough to be a long term city player, and no judgement yet possible on Cherki.

Khusanov coming along nicely and I hope we can find a consistent back 3/4 of Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol and Ati Nouri this season.

that said everything went for us today, Haaland with clutch finishes that he wont always put away. United put pressure on at times and we still looked quite exposed through wide midfield against a team who will probably finish bottom half. they wasted loafs of opportunities with the ball at their feet in the box and napoli and arsenal will beat us if we allow that space.

dont like the 4-2-4 again today generally - the wingers dont work hard enough to cover the full backs.

Always good beating those fuckers, so I can enjoy the rest of the evening.
I'd like to stick my neck out and say that O'Reilly had an excellent game at left back, particularly liked the megs on Ugarte.
Now need a meme of Doku taking the piss out of Shaw.

I don’t even think we played that well and should have won 6-0. A much much needed win. Lots of positive to build on. Get fucked you rags

They are shit, we removed their one asset of playing direct balls over the top and using the pace they have upfront by dropping back deeper and letting them have the ball until they predictably turned it over to us. Because they are shit.
They had 2 chances every player should score, whats the point of giving away ball if defending is clearly not our strongest points. Never seen us doing like that other than being 1:0 up in cl playoff and opponent has to throw everything they have against us.
