United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Is it only me or did our pattern of play look different yesterday.
I noticed our back line was not as high when in possession in their half and we didn’t compress the game into the final third as has been our style in the Pep era.
This opened up more spaces between the lines when going forward.
I also saw either Dias or Gvardiol sitting much deeper when we were going forwards…maybe we’re learning how to prevent other teams catching us on the break at long last…or maybe it was just because we were playing against a poor team.
Either way we didn’t get caught out as we have been so often before.
It was.

We stopped playing our stagnant style of 'netball football' and were actually passing and moving. The only negative is that our passing was way off, likely due to the players learning this new system and Rodders coming back to form. That's what's been encouraging for me, more than the win and beating the SCUM.

I really hope we keep this new style, and not revert back to how we've played the last 18 months.

What a weird performance. Absolutely no control of the game, scoring from transitions/counters. It’s the kind of way we’d usually lose a game when we’re having a bad day.

Thought they looked better on the ball.

We’ll get torn to shreds by Arsenal next week going off that.

I don't think so, I think we will concede possession and hit on the counter. Foden , Doku and Haaland is such a dangerous counter attack. No centre back can deal with Haaland at full speed. Arsenal struggle with breaking down defences, plus with Donnarumma in net there's extra protection

I think we are Pep Lijnders / Pep hybrid right now. Pressing in packs , quick transitions , balls out wide , everyone trying to get into the opposition box on the counter.

Pep respects Klopp, Pep loves football , he asked about Lijnders to Klopp so he's probably took on his ideas on. If we do turn into a Klopp/Pep style hybrid then when that clicks its going to be amazing to watch.

Such as when we camped in our half in the later end of the second half yesterday we were still looking for the counter when we won the ball. You can see the system there and starting to take shape. Just needs perfecting.

I saw a dipper fan tweet saying he was having flashbacks that the exact way we were countering against the rags was exact same way Mane , Salah , Firmino would counter for the dippers under Klopp/Lijnders. The speed of the transitions etc. The pressing/hunting in packs then quickly attacking was similar to what they did.

For the first time ever, I haven’t messaged a single rag supporting mate. I suspect they’re waiting with baited breath, but I imagine irrelevance to be more painful
What a picture. From Wilcox to Berada to Ratcliffe to the old man. All putting in perfectly distraught performances.

Put it in the Louvre

The good thing about beating the scum is that the twats that only seem to post when we have a bad result are nowhere to be seen.
Yesterday was great..loved watching the rags fans fucking off with 20 minutes to go.
You could tell it meant a lot to our players by the way they celebrated after the game..
It's always a great feeling to begin the week with a win over our neighbours from just outside Manchester
It is! Honestly couldn’t find a rag who didn’t think they would get something, most thought they’d win, including their media muppets & former players, they where coming to the etihad to finish Pep off & put us back in our box and bring in a new era of red dominance. Instead they got walloped, on and off the pitch, and now face the problem of having to look in the mirror

The last 18 months? That's since March 2024: we won the last 9 games in 23/24, April and May, to win 4 in a row and got beaten in November (at Bournemouth). In that period, the 4 in a row aside, we broke the record for most consecutive unbeaten games in Europe.

Also, the main reason why we didn't dominate possession yesterday was our passing and midfield problems. It wasn't tactics. The more this team develops, the more it will resemble previous Pep teams in terms of midfield dominance and possession-based style.

No! People who bang on about those abominations have their heads screwed on.
If the half and half mob stay until full time and applaud the players then they are alright by me. I actually couldnt give a shit but get a bit bored with muppets who never shut up about them.

First up.RIP Ricky

GTFI.Should shut up the moaning cunts who think Pep's finnished here for a few days.
Enjoy work tomorrow Blues.Rub the scums nose in it.

Exactly - that's why some fans have a role as blue moaners who think they understand the game better than Pep after a few teething probs with new players, and Pep has a role as the greatest most innovative and influential coach to walk the planet. Not to say they aren't entitled to an opinion.

I don't think he "missed" it, but a back pass is always waved away despite what the rules say. Refs seem scared of giving them at the best of times, so the Alty Rag is never giving one of those in City's favour in the derby.
The backless "rule" was introduced to stop the time wasting of passing back and forth its done its job refs rarely will give a FK unless they see it being used deliberately

Yep, hopefully it is a permenant tactical option for us from now on.

I've always said united are at the most ineffectual when they have plenty of possession, they are at their most dangerous when the opposition have all the possession but allow united the chance to attack on the break.
We have to be able to defend deep for periods of games, especially in Europe. Pep is now building City 3.00. Donnarumma is the key. We will see how far we have progressed on Sunday against Arsenal who have the best set pieces in the world. Remember when Joe Hart kept them out with Mancini. The press said we were boring but we had the last laugh.

Great win ,but performance was not great , We had less possession and better team would have punished nus today ,even at the end with 3-0 up ,Rags had 3 great chances to score (Drohu ,Mbeumo and Casemiro) .

Kovacic should start over Rjeinders if he is fit
Two of those Rags chances were clearly offside. They created virtually nothing. I agree there are better teams than United but we destroyed them.

Phil suddenly looks back to his best. Haaland yet again underlining his status as the most feared striker on the planet. Donnarumma instantly taking charge and from my seat in the East stand I saw him telling Haaland where he needs to be when defending corners. I've always said that Donnarumma is good with his feet - has a delicate touch when chipping to wing backs. Khusanov - a beast. Excellent performances all round. Men against boys.
