United (H) Post Match Thread

Still can’t shake off the disappointment of this one , worst I have felt after a defeat since the 3-2 van Persie debacle

It’s also taken some of the gloss off the impending title win , we had it in the palm of our hands and blew it

The atmosphere at half time on the concourse was one of job done , there was no atmosphere in the ground at the start of the 2nd half , everyone assumed it was going to be a 45 minute party

We must keep up the noise in the second half on Tuesday night, it ain’t over until it’s over
It'll be like being at church mate, half the fans don't care about the chimps league and the last couple of games have stopped us in our tracks, I've only got eyes for Saturday v spuds, Tuesday can go either way for me, I want that league title.
And when we lift the cup the red mardarses will be the last thing on my mind, yesterday won't be taking any gloss off for me, it'll be long gone.

I don't know why they do it or sit there after the game. Is it to get on TV? I was so pissed off I just wanted to get home, draw the curtains and hibernate for the rest of the night. If this was the last game of the season and we had lost the title and been relegated maybe.
I was thinking the same do people do this sort of thing to get on the telly? Like yourself I couldn't get out of the ground quick enough yesterday especially seems I'm in South Stand Level 1 right near the aways and them lot were heading towards us to clap their fans.

My point is that it will come round reasonably frequently if we remain successful. Especially as TV likes having derbies (especially Etihad ones) in April - normally a bit later on in the season than this one.
Based on the current fixture list yes I would agree with you but I cant say that seasons like this ( possible 19 points ahead ) will come round again too often even if we are successful.

Is it arrogance to suggest that we don’t need KDB and Sergio in our starting 11 to play Utd. Our closest rivals, 2nd in the league and on a 6 match winning streak? Yes, I think it is.

We went 2 up without them though, tactically things were working.

No but the reality was that beating Utd in 2012 led us to win the title - even though we did try our best to mess up at home to QPR. Whenever Utd and City are in the hunt it will be a decisive game.

BTW I'm still mightily pissed off about yesterday.

We need to stop being defined by a game here and a game there. For me, this season has been way in advance of anything I expected. I hoped that next season our dominance might be something approaching this one but to have it now is somewhat unexpected.
As for this week in general and yesterday in particular, apparently Pep hasn’t the first clue about football. By playing a slightly different team he would have GUARANTEED us a victory, such is the level of punditry and expertise on this forum. Not only that, but Aguero would have made the exact same runs as Sterling but would have scored (because he’s never missed a chance, ever). KDB would have tracked Pogba and stopped him scoring and Walker would have controlled that floated pass that Otamendi gave to Danilo which led to the free kick. Or maybe they wouldn’t.
I’ve also read some bollocks about if Pep had been in charge against QPR he’d have rested Aguero and 2012 wouldn’t have happened. In reality of course, he would have been able to rest him because they wouldn’t have been winning it in the last 4 minutes of the season!
Being defined by 2 games a season against Utd should be confined to history. Playing the sort of football which will endure for years to come and not be forgotten next week, finishing above them 4 times in a row and 5 seasons out of 6 should be our benchmark.
I’d happily get beat twice a season by them if we won 3/4 in a row. Whilst winning yesterday would have been fantastic, winning it in 1,2 or 3 weeks will be equally fantastic and I, for one, won’t ever tire of seeing us win stuff.
They celebrated yesterday like they’d won the title or got back into the race at least. They reminded me of us from 1980-2011 and I’ll remember that for years to come.

A fine post, and a particularly telling last point.Still deeply annoyed, though. Like everyone else, I wanted to party yesterday, in front of the rags. We’ll party, though. It’s just deferred.

Our own fault.

Regardless of being fucked over by the match officials, the simple fact remains we wouldn't be highlighting it today if we had taken any one of the other five gilt-edged chances we had before the break.

Sterling and Gundogan let us down at the pivotal moments, both who can be considered nothing more than decent squad players, when the real pressure moments come along.

Losing yesterday isn't the issue for me, it's how we lost.

We were fantastic for the first half.

I am becoming a little more aware that Fern is either on his last legs or the system is simply catching up with him this season.
