United (H) Post Match Thread

Shit that lad crying needs to get a grip.

I don't know why they do it or sit there after the game. Is it to get on TV? I was so pissed off I just wanted to get home, draw the curtains and hibernate for the rest of the night. If this was the last game of the season and we had lost the title and been relegated maybe.

We don’t get much practice at facing sustained pressure, but we should be capable of defending set pieces and crosses. United didn't have the ball enough yesterday to sustain pressure on us. They had 15 minutes where they created 3 chances.

The ref was awful, but we should have been out of sight in the first half. Then, definitely for their second and third goals they were absolutely free. No marking, no challenge and nobody trying to get in the way.

Young’s foul on Sergio was a disgrace. It was a blatant penalty and anywhere else on the pitch he’d get pulled up for it. The ref bottled that and a few other decisions. Sterling had a defender on his back in the first half and it was waved away.

But, my concern is that they had 4 chances yesterday and scored 3 goals. That’s just not good enough at any level of football. I don’t want to criticise the team, we’ve been superb this year. We capitulated yesterday because we thought the game was won. We took our foot off the gas and panicked when they scored. We didn’t try to change the intensity, we didn’t make subs until we were behind and we were very guilty of not putting the game to bed when they were on the ropes first half.
When we defend in the box we don't seem to have enough numbers in there. Against a team like Manure having their five minutes of attacking pressure, why can't we piss 'em off by creating a 'layers of players' formation that they have to get through in and around the box to go with our stunning football ? The elite teams also have back fours that bully the opposition - like Vinnie.

I've already commented elsewhere about opposing teams only needing a handful of half chances to score against us whereas we have twenty shots a game. Sugar Ray Leonard said something like 'if the first punch doesn't get you, the next one will'. After Raheem's first miss, I'm thinking 'Got to score your next chance Raheem'. He's vastly improved. However, if the elite players at Barca, Bayern, Madrid mess up a decent chance, the next one either goes in or an outstanding save has to be made.

Young is a surly and ruthless character whose actions tell you all you need to know. Surely grounds for an investigation - vis-a-vis his lunge at Sergio ?

Still can’t shake off the disappointment of this one , worst I have felt after a defeat since the 3-2 van Persie debacle

It’s also taken some of the gloss off the impending title win , we had it in the palm of our hands and blew it

The atmosphere at half time on the concourse was one of job done , there was no atmosphere in the ground at the start of the 2nd half , everyone assumed it was going to be a 45 minute party

We must keep up the noise in the second half on Tuesday night, it ain’t over until it’s over

2-0 up and cruising - we should not have lost. Nothing arrogant about that I dont think

Is it arrogance to suggest that we don’t need KDB and Sergio in our starting 11 to play Utd. Our closest rivals, 2nd in the league and on a 6 match winning streak? Yes, I think it is.

We need to stop being defined by a game here and a game there. For me, this season has been way in advance of anything I expected. I hoped that next season our dominance might be something approaching this one but to have it now is somewhat unexpected.
As for this week in general and yesterday in particular, apparently Pep hasn’t the first clue about football. By playing a slightly different team he would have GUARANTEED us a victory, such is the level of punditry and expertise on this forum. Not only that, but Aguero would have made the exact same runs as Sterling but would have scored (because he’s never missed a chance, ever). KDB would have tracked Pogba and stopped him scoring and Walker would have controlled that floated pass that Otamendi gave to Danilo which led to the free kick. Or maybe they wouldn’t.
I’ve also read some bollocks about if Pep had been in charge against QPR he’d have rested Aguero and 2012 wouldn’t have happened. In reality of course, he would have been able to rest him because they wouldn’t have been winning it in the last 4 minutes of the season!
Being defined by 2 games a season against Utd should be confined to history. Playing the sort of football which will endure for years to come and not be forgotten next week, finishing above them 4 times in a row and 5 seasons out of 6 should be our benchmark.
I’d happily get beat twice a season by them if we won 3/4 in a row. Whilst winning yesterday would have been fantastic, winning it in 1,2 or 3 weeks will be equally fantastic and I, for one, won’t ever tire of seeing us win stuff.
They celebrated yesterday like they’d won the title or got back into the race at least. They reminded me of us from 1980-2011 and I’ll remember that for years to come.
