United (H) Post Match Thread

Still can’t shake off the disappointment of this one , worst I have felt after a defeat since the 3-2 van Persie debacle

It’s also taken some of the gloss off the impending title win , we had it in the palm of our hands and blew it

The atmosphere at half time on the concourse was one of job done , there was no atmosphere in the ground at the start of the 2nd half , everyone assumed it was going to be a 45 minute party

We must keep up the noise in the second half on Tuesday night, it ain’t over until it’s over
It'll be like being at church mate, half the fans don't care about the chimps league and the last couple of games have stopped us in our tracks, I've only got eyes for Saturday v spuds, Tuesday can go either way for me, I want that league title.
And when we lift the cup the red mardarses will be the last thing on my mind, yesterday won't be taking any gloss off for me, it'll be long gone.

I don't know why they do it or sit there after the game. Is it to get on TV? I was so pissed off I just wanted to get home, draw the curtains and hibernate for the rest of the night. If this was the last game of the season and we had lost the title and been relegated maybe.
I was thinking the same do people do this sort of thing to get on the telly? Like yourself I couldn't get out of the ground quick enough yesterday especially seems I'm in South Stand Level 1 right near the aways and them lot were heading towards us to clap their fans.

My point is that it will come round reasonably frequently if we remain successful. Especially as TV likes having derbies (especially Etihad ones) in April - normally a bit later on in the season than this one.
Based on the current fixture list yes I would agree with you but I cant say that seasons like this ( possible 19 points ahead ) will come round again too often even if we are successful.

Is it arrogance to suggest that we don’t need KDB and Sergio in our starting 11 to play Utd. Our closest rivals, 2nd in the league and on a 6 match winning streak? Yes, I think it is.

We went 2 up without them though, tactically things were working.

No but the reality was that beating Utd in 2012 led us to win the title - even though we did try our best to mess up at home to QPR. Whenever Utd and City are in the hunt it will be a decisive game.

BTW I'm still mightily pissed off about yesterday.

We need to stop being defined by a game here and a game there. For me, this season has been way in advance of anything I expected. I hoped that next season our dominance might be something approaching this one but to have it now is somewhat unexpected.
As for this week in general and yesterday in particular, apparently Pep hasn’t the first clue about football. By playing a slightly different team he would have GUARANTEED us a victory, such is the level of punditry and expertise on this forum. Not only that, but Aguero would have made the exact same runs as Sterling but would have scored (because he’s never missed a chance, ever). KDB would have tracked Pogba and stopped him scoring and Walker would have controlled that floated pass that Otamendi gave to Danilo which led to the free kick. Or maybe they wouldn’t.
I’ve also read some bollocks about if Pep had been in charge against QPR he’d have rested Aguero and 2012 wouldn’t have happened. In reality of course, he would have been able to rest him because they wouldn’t have been winning it in the last 4 minutes of the season!
Being defined by 2 games a season against Utd should be confined to history. Playing the sort of football which will endure for years to come and not be forgotten next week, finishing above them 4 times in a row and 5 seasons out of 6 should be our benchmark.
I’d happily get beat twice a season by them if we won 3/4 in a row. Whilst winning yesterday would have been fantastic, winning it in 1,2 or 3 weeks will be equally fantastic and I, for one, won’t ever tire of seeing us win stuff.
They celebrated yesterday like they’d won the title or got back into the race at least. They reminded me of us from 1980-2011 and I’ll remember that for years to come.

A fine post, and a particularly telling last point.Still deeply annoyed, though. Like everyone else, I wanted to party yesterday, in front of the rags. We’ll party, though. It’s just deferred.

Our own fault.

Regardless of being fucked over by the match officials, the simple fact remains we wouldn't be highlighting it today if we had taken any one of the other five gilt-edged chances we had before the break.

Sterling and Gundogan let us down at the pivotal moments, both who can be considered nothing more than decent squad players, when the real pressure moments come along.

Losing yesterday isn't the issue for me, it's how we lost.

We were fantastic for the first half.

I am becoming a little more aware that Fern is either on his last legs or the system is simply catching up with him this season.

Yep and that probably was the problem.
Fans switched off, players switched off and their was a whole malise throughout the stadium. Their was only gonna be 1 winner after it was 2 2.
Typical City is still here.

We went 2 up without them though, tactically things were working.

And we could have been 3, 4 or 5 up had we played a stronger team. The game would have been over and Pep could have rotated players off in the 2nd half.

Well we fucked up so badly that our confidence in defending for the Champions League game will be non existent.
Absolutely NO CHANCE of winning the tie on Tuesday now. None. Even taking into account the remote possibility of a positive "Typical City" thing happening.

If we'd lost that 3-2 having been 3 down and fighting back (like the home cup defeat in 2013) then it would be far easier to take, I remember feeling after that cup defeat it almost felt like a moral win, pummelling them for 45 minutes with only 10 men. Yesterday though was like going back in time 15-20 years in terms of hurting. I said it to my son after about 50 minutes, we are pissing about at the back, only going half heartedly into 50/50s and basically playing like the game was over.
At one point, just before they got their 1st goal we had the ball on the edge of our box with a chance to break upfield and it was passed to Sane and, without looking, he attempted some stupid flick back towards our box, they win the ball back and shortly after they score...just summed up the slackness that we started the 2nd half with. After their 1st goal we should have killed the game for a period but carried on like we were 1 down with 10 minutes to go, sheer folly and the collapses we have had in the last 2 big matches against the better sides are very annoying.
Pep should have been more pragmatic last Wednesday at Anfield, we didn't have to go there and show we are a better side, the table is there for all to see. If we'd bored the arse of their crowd and a watching TV audience by scraping a 0-0 draw, would we care too much? Personally, I'd be feeling far better right now.
Starting yesterday with no recognised striker may have ended up contributing to our own downfall, it put added pressure on players like Raz and Bernando, in what is already a high pressure match, to suddenly turn into Aguero and finish off moves. Not excusing Sterling here for his bad misses, yes he has won us points with late goals but he has also lost us points (Burnley miss & yesterday)...I'm not sure Pep thinks he is the real deal anymore.
The last 5 halves of football we have played, we have only scored in one of them. In the last 2 months we have lost 4 games including defeats to utter pish like Wigan, have drawn with Burnley, have lost to a pretty average European team at home and then capitulated under the slightest amount of pressure to two of the better teams in our league.
Clearly, we are nowhere near (at the moment) the level of hyperbole that many on here have attributed to us and there is a long way to go.
A nice wee home demolition of Liverpool on Tuesday would go a long way to making up for this week. Oh, as for that utter pillock of a referee Atkinson...when these feckers cock up like he did yesterday, they should be made to apologise to the club concerned and be taken off the referee list for a couple of weeks, this should be announced publicly by the Ref Association (or whatever it is called)

Ferdaninho is 32 he up there with the most minute played just because we haven’t a direct replacement! So yep season catching up with him.

If it were in our hands I'd have no problem and would rest assured that our quality, one way or the other, would deliver, but we are also in the hands of the officials who, over the last two games have been poor to bent!
We had enough opportunities to make any referee fuck ups null & void. The fact is Sterling missed 2 sitters & De Gea pulled off 2 world class saves.

We shouldn't have to rely on perfect referreeing displays to win. We were 2-0 up & fucked it. The referees errors just made it harder to swallow.
