United (H) Post Match Thread

What does he do stay on his line and let Lukaku fire a shot off, real issue is someone should be tracking runners rather than watching the ball.

I'm with Tom here because Lukaku got the ball near the by line. He can't possibly score or cause danger from there. Runners should be tracked, as you said, but it's impossible to play a perfect defensive game. There will be times when a runner loses his marker. You try to make the right decision and only come out when you can get the ball.

I suppose it's a risk that comes with playing the way Ederson plays (a bit of a sweeper keeper), and we shouldn't be too hard on him, but instances like these are very avoidable. It never LOOKED like the right decision to go for the ball there. We could see the penalty coming the moment he launched himself at Lukaku's feet. And when you do that, you're gifting a penalty to a team that hasn't created a goalscoring chance. Just a gift.

Arteta looked really angry with him last night but Guardiola seemed to reassure him that everything is okay while trying to show him some support. I see both sides. We shouldn't castigate him but I can understand some members of the coaching staff being livid with him. Margins are slim at the top level and mistakes like these could cause a difference next time around.

He was never winning that ball, just like he wasn't winning the ball against Southampton, stupid mistakes and Lukaku was going absolutely nowhere, let him have a shot from a stupid angle all day every day. I can see what happens, if you have very little to do it must be hard to not have a rush to the head wanting to get involved, especially someone of Edersons character but it was completely unnecessary and put what was a one sided game then in the balance.

Was unnecessary to dive at his feet, he had to come off his line though. Someone should have gone with him there wasnt anyone near him when he picked that ball up. For that one blot on his copy book he didnt have much to do. His kicking and distribution were immense and even rat boy neville saying he was stroking it around better than some number tens.

Absolutely and I love Ederson, I wouldn't swap him for anyone. I am sure Pep is saying the same to him that even in games where he isn't involved to just keep that concentration.

Anyone got a clip of the exchange between sane/sterling and foden at the end?

I bet Foden will remember that for the rest of hie life;- his first Senior piss taking of those ****s down the road.

the day is drawing to a close over here in Japan, and I’ve been smiling all day, not been in this good a mood for ages! Thank you City

This is amazing stats. However PEG doesn't do stats, according to his after match press conference. Obvious bullsh*t of course, they're aware and explains why they're starting games slowly trying to preserve energy for the latter stages of the games.
They're worn out and only a quarter of the way through the season. I wonder how much they'll spend in January this year?

What a f**ked-up club!

Think the closest they got to an attempt on goal was Smalling looping a header over the bar, think if a ball gets threaded through next time he will think again and stand up. The deafening silence on the greatest goalie in the world is more telling, I would have been pissed off at Ederson for letting in Sergio's effort. Plus his kicking before hand was shocking.

That being the point that they created nothing, we gifted them back into the game. I hope he will think again but to commit the same foul a week apart from each other is the worry. I think a lot are taking credit away from Aguero on the pace he struck that ball.

The Mail has a photo of former Doctor Who Matt Smith at the Etihad yesterday celebrating a goal. Is he a City fan? Had no idea.
