Re: Never fail to amaze

this is how it feels to be city
this is how it feels to be small

Re: Never fail to amaze

I still can't get my head around this one, please bear with me.

I was in the pub last week and conversation with the Landlord gets around to the final game and what the atmosphere was like in the pub (it was about 50% Blue 50% red apparently).

A non match going rag at the end of the bar overhearing our conversation pipes up with "most true United fans are happy that City won the league".

I told him to give his head a wobble and said that the rags in the away end at Sunderland didn't look best pleased and that he was saying that to try and soften the blow.

He answered by saying that the United fans at Sunderland were not true fans, they were just biased fanatics.

I downed my pint and went.

Ferguson believes Scum are the team to beat this upcoming season...

So who disagrees with him aside from probably this entire forum and the Etihad powers that be?
Fergie has lost the plot if he thinks united are the team to beat or agenuine title contender!!

The helping hand from referees he gets last season will NOT happen again!
He [without refs help] has been well and truly found out [see Benfica, Basel, Bilbao.. etc]
Sir nosebleed is dying to win another title and retired as the greatest!! He cares only about his own legacy and images and will do anything to win the 20th title, debt crisis or not he won't care!!!

It'll all end in tears.

Fergie can go on as long as he likes, he will to win fuck all and retire as a loser!
He may as well give it up before a ball's even kicked then eh?

Of course he's going to be confident that his team can bounce back.

The shittest Utd side for a generation ( (c) Bluemoon) came second in a very tight title race last year, also, apart from 2003/04 - 2005/06 seasons, Utd haven't gone more than a season without being champions since being beaten to the title by Leeds in 1991/92.

Given all that why wouldn't he believe that, with a bit of strengthening, his team can reclaim the title?

Personally I don't know who will win the title next season but I do expect Utd to mount a very strong challenge and be there, or thereabouts, in the run-in.

Exactly , never remembered a united team not in the title race , however fucked they are , they are always there , currently , we and chelsea may have a stronger squad , but with the help of refrees (i dont know why they won't help them again) they will still mount a challange

Re: United thread 2012/13.

I wonder if I'm alone in this, but being a City fan I'd rather chew my arm off than watch Utd, unless they are playing us, consequently I've no idea how they accumulated their points last season. Utd must be good because they got the same points as us, but how good, strengths and weaknesses I don't have a clue.

My point is, being City fans how often do we actually watch Utd play and how easy is it to see past our dislike of the club to objectively analyse them?

I saw Utd on the box three times last season, I'll leave it to you to guess who their opponents were.

I agree that it's difficult to give an objective view about a team that are your most hated rivals. I also take JM's point on board that United must actually be rather good if they managed to amass 89 points last season. I've never subscribed to the view that United are in terminal decline but I do think it's fair to say that this isn't a vintage United side when compared to others in the Ferguson era. This isn't just a personal opinion - it's something shared by quite a few reds I know so I don't feel I'm being overly biased.

The thing about United is that Ferguson glues it all together and has a knack of making the sum greater than the parts and that's why they're still such a huge threat despite not having as strong a squad as they had a few years ago. It'll be interesting when he finally retires, especially if the Glazer's debt is still limiting their clout in the transfer market but if they make the right appointment it might not affect them too much.

Whoever they appoint Ferguson leaving will be seismic for Utd. When Busby left the club limped through the 70's. If anything the Fergy effect is even greater than that of Busby. Ferguson is more than the manager of the club, he is the club.

I actively encourage Rag optimism, it made it hurt all the more when we won it last season

We'll never fully appreciate just how much it hurt - no killed - the scum when we won the league. We are so different from rags - we are stronger and because we have suffered in the past, we can stomach defeat. They REALLY can't. They are still suffering and will always have the HISTORY of LOSING THE PREMIERSHIP to their greatest rivals MANCHESTER CITY.

Believe me, everything they say is down to the HURT they are feeling. Fergie is still suffering and can only say that their priority is to win the league back....how sore are they feeling
