Not really Rooney would have been played further forward and scored more goals if van persie wasn't there, they still got the same points as us last season without him. Its there simple system which cause problems they have width and pace in abundance.

Plus they have him so this thread is pointless.

Rooney would never have scored the goals that Van Persie has , and Rooneys been injured too.

Rooneys goal tally from last season was never likely to be repeated this time around , that's why Fergie brought you know who in!

Re: Without RVP rags would be mid table

Not mid-table without him but probably not 5pts clear either. United will never drop out of the top four in the foreseeable future. Rooney, Welbeck, the Mexican poacher, and possibly an alternative signing to the rapist (ie. Lewandowski) would have probably shared a bigger tally if the rapist hadn't gone to Stretford but there is no way they'd have enjoyed such a lead over us (they are still on course for the points record I think).

When the bouncy castle is fully occupied at the party we're all having then hopefully they will! :-)

Re: Without RVP rags would be mid table

well once again he scores... to me he was quiet all game but when he did have a chance he buried it...

well it's impossible to say where they'd be as the only way to look at his goal contribution is to take it out and see where they'd be if they didn't score any other goals without him being there, which is extremely unlikely but hey, at least we can see his contribution:

Games he's scored in:

Fulham(H) x 1, result: Win 3-2, without Goal: 2-2(-2 points & -1 GD).
So'ton(A) x 3, result: Win 3-2, without Goals: 0-2(-3 points & -3 GD).
L'pool(A) x 1, result: Win 2-1, without goal: 1-1(-2 points & -1 GD).
Stoke(H) x 1, result: Win 4-2, without goal: 3-2(-1 GD).
Chelsea(A) x 1, result: Win 3-2, without goal: 2-2(-2 points & -1 GD).
Arse(H) x 1, result: Win 2-1, without goal: 1-1(-2 points & -1 GD).
WHU(H) x 1, result: Win 1-0, without goal: 0-0(-2 points & -1 GD).
Reading(A) x 1, result: Win 4-3, without goal: 3-3(-2 points & -1 GD).
MCFC(A) x 1, result: Win 3-2, without goal: 2-2(-2 points & -1 GD).
S'land(H) x 1, result: Win 3-1, without goal: 2-1(-1 GD).
N'castle(H) x 1, result: Win 4-3, without goal: 3-3(-2 points & -1 GD).
WBA(H) x 1, result: Win 2-0, without goal: 1-0(-1 GD).
Wigan(A) x 2, result: Win 4-0, without goals: 2-0(-2 GD).
L'pool(H) x 1, result: Win 2-1, without goals: 1-1(-2 points & -1 GD).
Spurs(A) x 1, result: Draw 1-1, without goals: 0-1(-1 point & -1 GD).

So United have won 13 out of 14 games in which RVP has scored, today was the first time they dropped points and that was in the 92nd minute. Without RVP's goal(s) in those games United would have won just 4 of those games, so it's clear what his impact has been, as shown below:

w/RVP goals:

Pld 15 W14 D1 L0 GD: +19 Pts: 43.

without RVP goals:

Pld 15 W4 D9 L2 GD: +2 Pts: 21.

so United would be 20 points worse off and 16 goals worse off in their GD, which would mean they would be in the table:

Other Games: P8 W4 D1 L3 GD: 7 Pts: 13.

Equals Pld 23 W8 D10 L5 GD: +9 Pts: 34.

which would put them 7th, 17 points behind us. He's sure made an impact but I doubt United would be doing that badly if they hadn't signed him.

-- Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:25 pm --

p.s. They also wouldn't have got the replay in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, and would have lost away in Cluj so wouldn't have qualified for the knockout stages of the CL, hypothetically speaking.

Glad there's less of RVP w@nk fest recently. To add to this, he scored 5 more goals than Rooney did in same number of league games last season and he is missing as much chances as any other striker. Rooney was used as classic midfielder in half of those games though after we twatted them at Swamp.

He just has lot of them and it's obviously very good striker that buries lot of them. That's why he was paid 24 mil and 200k/week.

He is additional option for them of course but he is nowhere out of this world as you could think listening to people and media.

I'd say all in he has been good for 9 points for them this season.

Assuming if they didn't get RVP whoever else they brought in would still have got a few goals, yeah i'd say 9 points is fair and probably conservative.
