That's not the way things work though in practice. For years, politicians have leaked stuff and briefed journalists to ensure various outcomes, be that trailing policy announcements, talking themselves up or sticking the knife in their enemies.

From a football club's point of view, they manage the media for various reasons. In this case, it sets the agenda for a clear-out and prepares the fans so that they expect it when it actually happens. It also protects Moyes' back to a degree as it tries to imply that he's inherited a squad that isn't good enough and that's why it's underperforming. And mostly people have bought that, with very few questioning the fact it's the same squad that won the title last season. And the media tend to run this stuff because they know that if they play ball, they'll get more good stuff. No one actually reported it like that. some names were mentioned, such as Nani and Young but they weren't exactly surprises.

I know that, at City for example, we had to sell SWP in 2005 as he was the only saleable asset we had and we were skint. Almost as soon as the 2004/5 season drew to a close, the stories started about Chelsea's interest. These came from the club, in order to prepare the ground for his sale so by the time it happened, most fans were expecting it. I believe they were also briefing that he'd been advised to move by his dad. I'm no fan of Ian Wright but he was actaully telling him to stay another season so he's be sure of getting in the World Cup squad.

Something else they used to do was that any story involving the then CEO, had the words "...highly regarded Chief Executive...". This was to build uop his image in the press as he knew Thaksin wanted rid of him. This also led to loads of stories disparaging Thaksin.
Astonishing that this goes on. Wouldn't it leave him (and all managers) really vulnerable though? If one journalist got some cocky ideas and that was printed it'd piss off a lot of players to the point of mutiny. Or do the media behave for fear of being frozen out permanently? I didn't think clubs would trust them that much especially when you're in that precarious a position. I always assumed journalists had no idea what was going on and were just sniffing through trash cans outside training grounds for information.

Makes me piss that should United sack him that they will have to pay him for the remaining 4 years of his contract which I highly doubt will come cheap. He certainly won't be looking to quit the job that's for sure. The media's second darling won't want to be seen as a quitter, especially when he's looking at a potential huge kitty come the summer.

I will have to question the sanity of the execs at United should they fail to even consider replacing Gollum. They certainly won't be able to afford to blow their kitty on players likes Fellaini. Can't imagine what world class players could be persuaded to join a team that isn't in the Champions League or at least a team that has such a boring style of play under Moyes.
Call me old Mr. Unadventurous, but I for one would like see rag execs blowing their kittens onto Felatio, accompanied by Michael Knighton playing keepy-uppy whilst Sir Bobby offers cut-price anal lubes to the assembled 625miilion and their puckered red circles. That'd be some half-time show.

Folks

I think we should cut stretfordender some slack.

After all we welcome opposition supporters and It's not easy to articulate your thoughts in a foreign language.

Clearly he's getting a bit confused on some of his posts?

Either that or at the same time he thinks he's on the Fulham forum and listing the players he thinks might get in their side?

Either way, welbeck, Evans and jones will still struggle...

got sent this earlier..........

Newsflash!!

David Moyes has put a bid in for
Ken Barlows defence.........

well I thought it was funny

It is easy to forget in all the hilarity that Mourinho was desperate to take over from ferguson yet for some preposterous reason they instead chose to overlook him and give Moyes a 30 million quid contract. Personally I find that utterly mind boggling.

I strongly suspect that this so only half the truth, there is a lot more to come yet, look at their next fixtures

Arsenal - away
Palace -Away
Olympiacos - away
WBA - away
Liverpool -home

I genuinely cannot see them winning any of these games and I also believe they will get beaten by Olympiacos over two legs.

Tick tick tick tick....

Wee Davey is fucked.

#SOD
Wee Davey is 6ft 1 ?

Pellegrini is 8ft 7.

I have the feeling they are preparing basically for two cup finals v City and Liverpool and a best attempt at the CL as possible.Unfortunately Big Davey will find out you just can't switch on from like a light switch, winning is a habit.

Unless they have started giving out 7 or 8 points a match for beating Us and Liverpool, your team are going to be too far behind the the top 4.
(God that sounded good, saying that to a United fan)
Top 4 is no honour for Utd we are use to better than that,6 th will do me fine ( outside the EL) no European football next season will be a blessing for both the team and the supporter.Regarding the current crop of players or as they are still known Champions, the squad is as good as any in the Prem inc City, first eleven no,squad yes.
It's obvious the change of management hasn't gone down well with the experience players ,and it's looks like most of them will be off ski sooner than expected , but I,m sure they will purchase suitable replacements ,they have done in the past,so I can't see why that should change.
So no panic from our household ,after so much success i was prepared for a dodgy spell when the great man jacked it in.Quite enjoying really.keeps them in the headlines as ever.

you really believe your own shite dont you.. oh well pride before the fall n' all that..

-- Tue Feb 11, 2014 5:42 pm --

'They' haven't purchased quality in the past, Ferguson has. Who did Moyes ever attract to Everton of any note? Good players, yes, but not great players which is what United will need if they are to compete again. Mata is there for game time only and was in a bad situation at Chelsea. I dare say if someone with more chances of trophies than United would have come in, he would have gone there instead. Moyes tried to get quality in last summer - and ended up with £24m Failaini for all his hard work. I can't see why that would be any different, especially with no CL to offer. Liverpool, should they make the CL, will attract those names over United.
Ask any player in the world which club would you wish to play for and United would be on that list, without doubt.

So where the fuck are they then??
