dirty players
Second embarrassing dive in two games, blatant cheating, media will give it a wide birth, if he was foreign he would get hammered.

I wish someone would snap this twat in half

A 1-1 draw was always there in the back of my mind today, even when everything around me was screaming a comfortable 3-0 in Bayern's favour. I've got no idea why I didn't put a bet on and I'm kicking myself for it. Tonight showed why United have been so excellent away, and yet so poor at Old Trafford.

The answer is simple: Moyes sets up not to lose first.

All of United's chances in the first half came from aimless lumps up-field after Bayern's final pass just hadn't come off due to the sheer amount of United players defending in their own penalty area. United have played like the away side almost all season, which is why, when teams come to United with either an extra midfielder or a plan to hit on the break, they've not been able to cope.

Away from home it's always a different story. No matter who you are, you always try to keep possession at home. It's your own turf. It's your ball. So, like tonight, United allow a team to pass the ball around in front of them and then capitalise on a lapse in concentration from the opposition. It happened at West Brom, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, West Ham and a couple of other places. United have won away so often this season because the opposition they've faced from the lower half have been so terrible.

Only, when they've come up against disciplined sides like City, Liverpool and Chelsea, their system has come unstuck. Teams in the top half of the table don't make anywhere near as many mistakes as teams in the lower half of the table do. Moyes isn't a man who takes risks, and he's always, always paid for it against the big sides. He's played 48 times away from home to teams who finished in the top 4 the previous season and won none of those games.

Tonight, if Bayern's final ball had been sharper, they would have been out of sight. But United took advantage of that and defended with the discipline they've lacked at home this season and grew steadily as the game went on. They get their goal from a set-piece (another Moyes trait) but can't quite keep their concentration for the 90 minutes and Bayern score. For Bayern's goal United's defence were properly stretched for the first time in the game and three of their players (Fellaini, Jones, Ferdinand) all switched off.

Moyes will continue to hold them back in this way unless he radically changes his approach. £200m and who knows, he might just do that, but I very much doubt he'll be around long enough to spend that kind of money before the axe is swung and he's vying to be Scotland's next manager.

F#*k me, nothing but positives from the commentators about a side that played like the away side at the mighty Owed Trafford, battered in terms of possession, 2nd best all over the pitch, Schweinsteiger sent off but Valencia not. Even though Bayern have the away goal you would think the scum hold the upper hand.

Was thinking this at half time. Keane and co were talking about how Beyern had all the possession, but had done nothing with it. All the plaudits went to the rags. Yet when we played our home game with Barca we got absolutely slam dunked, about how Barca had all the possession, how Barca out passed us. All this without them doing anything with it. Seemed like a carbon copy to me. Yet we get slammed, and the rags are praised to the rafters. Absolute bollocks.

We are seen as a very, very good team though. PL favourites and genuine CL contenders when we finally get our heads
around the competition. Plucky little United who are regularly trounced at home by the top PL teams are well 7th
in the league. I'd expect Spurs or Southampton who are at their level to get the same sort of praise. That's the new reality.

No escaping the rag plastics!

On the 5:05 Euston train from Manchester and it is full of orientals and plastics with carrier bags of merchandise, grrrr! Hopefully they will have the wrong tickets and be booted off, lol!

They'll play exactly the same way in the away leg as well, and if you want an against the odds prediction, it's that they'll win it. They are truly shit, the most technically limited side ever to progress to this stage of the competition, but that shitness works to their advantage. Last night they reverted to type. Seven players standing 6ft 2' or taller, a parked bus, a series of gormless clumps downfield for Wellshit and Shrek to chase in oceans of space, and the inevitable perfect whipped inswinging set piece to steal them a goal they didn't deserve. Bayern meanwhile were shocking IMO, playing right into the rags hands with their complacent, tippy tap, false no.9, shit, and with 2 players injured and 2 suspended for the 2nd leg, my money's on the rags getting the result they need

The ref has done his bit, time for the rags to do Theirs. As it happens they are dogshit and need more than a bent ref to progress, especially over there.

Utd fans will be relieved that they didn't get beat. What else could they do but sit back and play for set-pieces / a mistake?

Nothing.

This was all they could do.

Even though they played the best game you could expect them to play. The nature of their game and strategy underlined how far they have fallen.
it was like watching a big team v a conference side in an fa cup tie, united fair play to them got a result, but what must the rest of europoe think when the mighty manyoo hoof and hope, they must think English football is back in the 70s

Utd are like a 180 million pound version of Stoke. Little danger unless from set pieces.
Though to be fair to Stoke they did not cheat as much.

Someone in the media should have balls and do a Rooney cheating compilation. Enough from this season alone for a show. From escaping nailed on cards, to diving to abusing the ref, running screaming at them and escaping all punishment for it.
If Rooney ever leaves Utd, who ever buys him will have him missing for 10+ games a year through suspensions as he wont get away with half of what he does now if he leaves the safety protection zone of Utd

It was the highlight of their season so far, but shows how far they have fallen. This type of situation is where Moyes is at his best, low expectations, pack the midfield and hope for something off a set piece. In that sense he might do 'better' next year, with lower standards.

There does seem too much of an emphasis on passing in the modern game, For all Bayerns possession they don't have the same cutting edge as Barca, and didn't create much until Mandzukic came on, when they went more direct in their approach.

The best thing about the result was Bayerns goal didn't come as a result of them passing the rags to death, it was a simple ball into the box that wio couldn't cope with, nodded back for Scweinsteiger. Absolutely terrible from their point of view that they should concede to Bayern in this way, rather than being carved open with passes.

Should keep Moyes safe. 5 more years.
