I stand corrected, gentlemen. And as gollum is 'cut from the same cloth' as baconchops, I expect him to listen as keenly to what the fans think as did his mentor.dronefromsector7g said:It's just not the United way.gordondaviesmoustache said:Don't forget the romance of united. The United way.

Wouldn't mind reading this too

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Jaap Stam has caused a further stir in his autobiography by claiming that Sir Alex Ferguson encouraged his side to dive in an attempt to earn penalties when playing in Europe.
The Dutchman says that the English players in the squad found it hard to adopt the policy of going to ground easily, but that Ferguson believed that it was fair game on the continent.
"It's got to the stage where he has even told us: 'Don't try and stay on your feet if you're in the box and get a slight kick," Stam revealed in his autobiography being serialised in the Mirror.
"He wants us to copy other sides we face in European competitions and go down to win a penalty.
Lukaku was a good signing upfront, and Barry in midfield, the Barca lad was also a good signing, 3 loans though, improved their squad, but not their players long term. On that Martinez has shown Moyes up for what he is, an average manager, but that's not really discussing uniteds failings, just everton's current superiority over them.supercrystal7 said:This is the first place where you are wrong. Martinez has done a lot to strengthen Everton.
1. He brought in a much better striker than they have ever had in Lukaku.
2. He completely changed the midfield around. He brought in two new midfielders. Barry and Mccarthy are the reason their passing game has improved. Barry has been their best player in my opinion.
3. He moved Coleman for good to right back and gave him more license to attack.
4. He brought Barkley back into the team and played him off the striker.
5. He also brought in more talented wingers like the Barcelona player and Oviedo, who is a left back but can play out wide.
Those are huge changes and they are reaping the benefits.
Signing RVP was purely about getting one over on City, who were in for him as well, it was a gamble, it worked. Please don't underestimate though how much influence on the team ferguson had, it was huge, not just this squad, but all his previous squads, he has always got more out of the squad than its real worth, that was his game, he's consistently got more out of average players than anyone else has managed anywhere imho.supercrystal7 said:United lost the points on goal difference the year before. It took until the last minute of the last game for City to win the league. The team had cracks and weaknesses, but every team until City in the Premiership did. Buying a player like RVP was more than just one final swansong. Ferguson is not the kind of manager to forgive and I always thought he would get rid of Rooney. Before the RVP signing there were far too many rumours about Lewnadowski going to United. RVP was not a short term solution, but the replacement for Rooney. As for getting on he is 30 and whilst being injury prone has never relied on his athletic ability much.
I'm not sure I follow ?supercrystal7 said:This is where I disagree. Bringing back Scholes was certainly a mistake and rather than the RVP signing an example of how he wanted to get one over City and was not thinking about the future. This was Ferguson's biggest weakness and where they needed to rebuild.
and therein lies a big issue, like us the previous season, its not enough, spunking it nearly all on Fellaini was ridiculous, just because he knew his game, it was never suited to united's game. It didn't even weaken Everton !supercrystal7 said:The thing is Moyes had 30 million to spend on the problem.
I dare say none of them were in uniteds price range.supercrystal7 said:I have brought up players available this summer who would have completely changed the midifled. Carrick partnered alongside Fernandinho, Moutinho, Gustavo or De Rossi would have been acceptable.
Cabaye would have been far better than Fellaini, but he hadn't played for moyse.supercrystal7 said:Instead Moyes went for stupid unrealistic targets like Fabregas. Even if you failed to get any of those a player of Strootman's or Cabaye's quality would have grealty helped the problem.
but still past his sell by date, especially fitness wise, ferguson managed that situation well, to uniteds advantage, but he was effectively gone in real terms and needed replacing, probably the previous summer.supercrystal7 said:As for Ferdinand he somehow had an Indian Summer last season. For the second half of last year he was actually very good.
Vidic might well last another couple of years, but he too is running out of fitness, and isn't a patch on 2-3 years ago imho.supercrystal7 said:However, it's not liek Ferguson left him short changed in defence. He left him centre backs like Vidic, Evans, Smalling and Jones.
The problems were deeper than they appeared, but given that there was no longer any ferguson either, they were deep in the shit, and it will take a lot of getting right, whoever is manager, Moyes wasn't a great choice, but the problems were caused by ferguson, and they are pretty deep imho.supercrystal7 said:Ferguson left a team with problems, but a team that should never have even thought about slipping out of the top 4.
