I think it's fair to say that after 26 years, a new manager of anything will be under going a transitional phase. It'll be the same with Arsenal when Wenger goes.

But would you sack of all of the other members of the highly successful Management Team and bring in your own as soon as you walk in the door
or would you leave it be for the first season and gradually make changes over a period of time and you fully understand with exactly what and who you are dealing with?
What I would do is not in question, the OP which has been merged with this said he was sick of the phase, 'transitional period', but that's exactly what it is, a transitional period of the like we've not seen in the modern game.

It is a transitional period.

They are in transition from a good football team with a very succesful manager to a shit football team with a shit manager.

It's only getting better, for City fans. When yer think that Moyes might just have turned the corner (his words, not mine) they go an drop another one. What chance them buggering up v The Black Cats? Now if they went out over the two legs . . . . . . . . . . . . !!

A Sunderland win is on the cards imo.

United have got the manager they wanted, someone who is prepared to manage a team with little to spend.

and hopefully with no success

I think it's entirely accurate, and completely fair, to talk about Manchester United and their current plight in the contex of a "transitional period", as that's exactly what they are currently going through. This transitional period was always going to mean a drop off on the pitch, I don't think anyone legitimately thought this would be a seamless switch and that United would be winning the title this season. However there's only so far the excuse of a transitional period can be allowed to go. united's current struggles, their points tally and their footballing displays can't all be explained away by a simple transitional period, they run deeper than that. Moyes has underperformed. In the same way that Ferguson seemingly was able to take a lesser squad of players and bring more out of them that you thought possible, Moyes doesn't seem capable of getting enough out of his squad to be competitive. Realisitically this United squad should be in in or around the 4th place. They aren't as good as City, or Chelsea, or Arsenal, but there's no reason for them to be so far adrift of Liverpool, Spurs, Everton etc, they have the squad to match those 3 sides.

I agree with you Matty
Even that w4nker Mike Sweeney admitted as much about four weeks ago
He said that genuine 'nited fans knew it would be a difficult period for the "club", due to the ageing squad and the 26 year glory period the previous manager had been in charge for and that the true expectation/target for this season was a top four Prem finish

I take it you didn't go to the semi final then!

I don't know about anyone else but I'm pretty sick of hearing this word get peddled about to describe United's situation at the moment.

I understand that not only have they got a new manager and a new backroom staff, they have also got a new Chief Exec.

But seriously, how long is this 'transitional' period excuse going to be used to describe their current standing. Us and Chelsea both have new managers, so what exactly is this 'transitional' phase because I'm getting pretty sick of hearing it in every interview that Moyes gives.

IMO if they don't fniish in the top 4 this 'transitional' phase could go on for another few years, I can't see them attracting the players as they will all want to play in the champions league.

It's a perfectly accurate description... they are in transition from a successful team to a shite team.

From The Telegragh, not sure if it's been posted before:
Manchester United manager David Moyes' failure to chase down Premier League's top four has seen the club's worth tumble by £220m in a month

Manchester United’s struggle to challenge for Champions League qualification has led to £220million being wiped off the club’s stock market valuation in a month.

United, who will be without the injured Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Ashley Young for Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Swansea City at Old Trafford, have seen their share price on the New York Stock Exchange drop by more than 12 per cent from £10.68 to £9.36 since Dec 6 – despite the S&P 500 Index on which the club is listed enjoying a two per cent per cent overall rise in that time.

I bet they've lost even more now they're out of the FA cup.

Just found this little gem in the revised expectations thread.

Community Shield is now classed as part of the domestic treble. You couldn't make it up.

Realistically we won't win the champions league, so ideally I'm happy for us to go for the domestic treble.

Community shield
League cup
Fourth place trophy.

Whole thing is probably tongue in cheek though as OP has "fourth place trophy" in there as well.

I see Rag Sports News propaganda machine has juddered into motion with assurances of "Significant funds" being available to The Chosen One.
