So when was our 'transitional phase' under MP?

Anyone with half a brain can see our 'transitional' phase is Pellegrini simply getting to grips with our away form. I say 'transitional' like that though because it is completely different to what is happening over the way there in Trafford. Again, the only thing that will come anything like close to the comparison will be when Wenger retires, although even that will be different. Ferguson ran the club from the bottom up, and for all that to end and one man come in with his own management team and ideas, well it was always going to go tits up, I just didn't think it would be this bad. It is a transitional period though, although not that it matters either way. It doesn't say 'Man United, 7th in the league due to a transitional period', that's just the label people are giving it for the change that has gone on, a change no club has had to have happen to it in the modern era.

But the top and bottom of it is they have a new manager, with a new backroom staff, as have we. They have also got the exact same squad that won the league last season plus a £27 million Fellaini.

I understand what your saying about how he ran the club from top to bottom, but at the end of the day they were the Champion and they chose Moyes as manager. Are you telling me that if Pellegrini/Mourinho/Pep went in there instead that they would be sat in 7th and out of the FA Cup by January?

It's not me who's come up with the term, mate. I just agree that is what's going on there. We went from one manager to another as did Chelsea, but it's not the same as them and their change.
If I am married to Mrs P for 26 years and then we go our separate ways, for whatever reason, the new Mrs P will mean I am going through a transitional period in regards to getting to know what makes her squirt. Transitional.

Personally i just think its a word that is being used to give his failings so far a pretty wide berth. Would they be using this phrase if the transitional phase was going well? As far as I can remember they were still being touted as potential champions even with a new manager.

As I said in my previous comment, if they had any of those managers in charge this 'phase' would have been put to bed after they had dealt with the teething problems.

Transitional as a word in this debate is not accurate anymore.

You can talk about transitions but it’s quite simple:

Would united be in this position if mourinho was in charge?
Would united be in this position if ancelotti was in charge?

Obviously the answer to both is no.

In the modern game an elite manager doesn’t care about the name of the club – they will look at the squad and the amount of money they have to spend. So they would take one look at united’s poor squad and a £30m transfer war chest and say “thanks but no thanks”.

That’s the reality of the situation for united – if you don’t invest in the squad and you don’t make funds available you end up with david moyes.

Tough shit.
