" . . . . . . . he decided to 'do one' while the going was good."

I think you have it here, GDM. No money to spend and having spent the millions he has over his tenure, it would have been obvious to him that he was staring down the barrel!

What he will not be able to offload from his legacy is that the one man committee who appointed, recommended and installed Wee Davey was (plays fanfare) DER DER DER DER DER DER DER the old GPC himself!!

The Lies They Tell

Manchester United will back David Moyes with a mammoth £200million to rebuild his beleaguered team.

Manchester United have called a meeting of their European scouts this week at Carrington.

Around 16 of Manchester United's European scouts are due to deliver their reports on potential targets as manager David Moyes goes over the standard required.

David Moyes has sent a scouting party to watch Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, and Atheltic Bilbao's Ander Herrera, who Manchester United missed out on in the summer

So, they haggled with Bilbao in the summer over a couple fo million, to the point they lost out on signing Herrera, yet they've now found £200m down the back of the sofa? This has got "placate the masses" written all over it. I promise you now, they will spend absolutely nowhere near £200m on new players, there's far more chance of them spending £0m on players this January.

wouldn't mind Di Maria at city, we could get kolarov to boot the diving out of him in training and he'd be a great addition after.

On my app it says Herrera, Reus, Fabrigas, Cavani, Falcao, Gundogan and Defour. Total bollocks.

The Man United transfer narrative has taken on new levels of delusion since Slur Alex's retirement. It's obvious that they want their supporters to believe that they are indeed in pole position to sign Europe's elite players. What makes me laugh is that there is absolutely nothing in their recent history to suggest even if they finish in the top 4 and Moyes is given the mythical blank cheque book, that any of those players will come. The fact is that they regularly missed out on the best players from across Europe whilst Slur was still the boss. From Hazard to Benzema and beyond.

I've never been hugely bothered by the purported "bias" the written press show towards the rags. They need to sell newspapers and there's more plastic rags than there are anything else in England so it stands to reason that they'd on the whole be very pro United. However it amazes me the disparity between the way Moyes' current predicament is being portrayed and say, the way AVB was treated by the press at both Spurs and Chelsea.

Having said all that hats of Dan Taylor for being the only football writer at a big newspaper to say out loud what the rest of the world can see. And also lets hope that as things go from funny to funnier at $old Trafford that they keep faith with Moyes.

by my count that would be 350m plus on recent transfer fees and release clauses, can't they count?

Not for me, i would hate that piece of shit anywhere near our club, same go's for that bucktoothed twat at Liverpool.

I don't believe that Ferguson has set out to sabotage United. His judgment of players he acquired for them was often wrong.Likewise his judgment to bring in his successor could be wrong.
I think it is that simple.Ferguson isn't infallible, or some kind of Machiavellian genius.
Pretty much my thoughts - I think to many imbue him with some kind of mythical wisdom and super powers. He's just a bloke who got the best out of his players by any means which he could justify with the ends.

He's gone, they're fucked, job done :)

I really hope they do spend £200M on 6 or 7 players.

Firstly the wages will cripple them and Moyes won't have a fucking clue how to coach anyone who arrives. It will be like the Spurs summer window. Simply bought too many players, on too high wages and with no real plan how to use them.

In short United let too many important players grow old together rather than invest and replace. Now with a clueless manager and coaching team, coupled with injuries to Rooney and RVP, the whole club on a footballing front has all but collapsed!

It's almost at the point of knock down and start again rather than a £200M renovation.

So do they gamble big to maintain too 4 status but risk oblivion, or do they downsize expectation, drink their medicine and try to rebuild without the gamble of giving the clearly incompetent Moyes money to gamble?
