I'd be very surprised if he was skiing as no footballer is allowed to do that.

He was with his little boy. Granted not speeding down the Alps but was still skiing with a thigh injury.

Footballers are simply not allowed to do potentially dangerous sports like skiing, certainly not someone at his level. It would be in his contract for sure. Who saw him and where? If it was him then that's basically two-fingers to Moyes & the rags.

So, no. There is no warchest here after all. But we know why this was mentioned of course.

I think they have got some cash to spend. The guardian worked out from their recent accounts and dealings that they had 86 million in spare cash to spend.

It may look like they've got cash in the bank when they publish their accounts but it's not necessarily spare cash. The prize money for the PL & CL, plus season ticket money largely comes in before the financial year end, so that inflates their bank balance. But they've got to use that to pay wages and other expenses throughout the summer and the rest of the season, when relatively little cash is coming in. Therefore a lot of that will be working capital rather than free cash and by February/March most clubs are living on their overdrafts.
