Why is LVG waiting to spend?

It doesn't matter that he hasn't seen that much of Jones, Smalling and Evans in training or friendlies - they only have 3 experienced central defenders.

Teams like Real Madrid might be ready to offload a few players and their traditional rivals in the transfer mkt (Arsenal, City, Chelsea etc) will have done their business so they will have a free hand, but will there be players available in the right positions?

In a word, no. Every top club is on the lookout for centre halves and nobody is selling any. Don't know if timing would have made any difference there though, maybe they could have signed benatia had they been quicker but can't think of any others.

Mathieu isn't top class, besides Barcelona were in for him and Mangala might not have been available if TH has it right. Lovren seemed to have chosen Pool before the summer started as well. Mangala potential instead of top class also, you have to remember we're adding to a defence that has VK, they have nothing, different requirements.
Hopefully he keeps dragging his feet though and ends up trying to play 3–5–2 with only 3 shite defenders, that would be funny.

Just to prove the old adage that there's one born every minute,Benfica have coughed up real currency for Bebe,reportedly about 2 million.
I would imagine he'll invest in a new park bench in Lisbon and vacate his old one in Piccadilly Gardens.

It's "up to 2.4m" so probably dependant on appearances and so on.

And if you go on Rag caff on their FFP thread it seems they don't object to the idea of a club having loads of cash to spunk all over shite players like that its the ORIGINS of that money they find offensive. Us and Chelski they refer to as "sugar daddy" clubs with rich owners ( whether either club is directly owned by a single individual is a topic in itself ) - so its fine to blow zillions as long as they are borrowed zillions it seems - even when the upshot of that spending is also millions go out of the game as debt repayments on the loans - whereas new money coming into the game from so called sugar daddies is not to be countenanced - and UEFA go along with that shite.
