I heard from a very reliable journalist years ago that Neil Webb was dropped and sold when he contacted England to tell them he was fit, after being withdrawn from the squad by ferguson.

I'm guessing that your journalist friend never actually saw Neil Webb play for United. If he had, he'd know that the real story is how in fuck's name Webb was even in the England squad.
You haven't sussed out that it is PRECISELY the reason he played for the Rags that he got into the England squad?

Me and a friend were talking about the number of players who, had they not played for the Rags, would get anywhere near the England squad. Just a few names to start with - feel free to add more.

Bill Foulkes
Mike Duxbury
Brian Greenhoff
Stuart Pearson
Webb
Mike Phelan (called up the day he signed for them)
Phil Chuckle
Tom (Zidane) Cleverley
Phil Jones
Zaha
Smalling
Wellbeck
etc ad nauseam

Just a VERY small selection of the many who have gone on to (ahem) distinguished England careers, with the media fawning over them because of this. And, of course, when players of clubs (such as City, in paticular, James Milner) are mentioned, it is usually in a derisive manner.

I will also never forget the comments of Billy Bingham, the former Norn Iron manager, who said of Sammy McIlroy "If he's good enough to play for M...... U...... , he's good enough to play for NI".

Says it all, really.

Beckham, if ever a player was over rated it was this twat.

Zaha is the ultimate example.

Soon as he signed he was in the England squad.

agreed, and with the rest. the desperation of the fa to attract shirt sales and viewers is frankly quite embarrassing.

Which for me is exactly the reason he gave Rooney the captains armband. He was trying to abate some of the fans and media with a pick of a player from a team with the most fans.

I stand corrected. Campbell's also a fucking rag isn't he?

Either way, the twat didn't deserve it.

Campbells a Burnley fan.

So he is. My mistake.

I also add my name to the list condemning the killing of the utd fan. We all hate them, but there's a limit FFS. Ridiculous, needless and totally out of order. My sympathies to his poor family. RIP

We don't all hate them. I choose not to hate someone 'cos they support a different football team to me.

tayally agree.

whoever has done this is a disgrace.
whoever you are stay away from city. we dont want you.

i think its pretty obvious that nobody could expect the guy to die but football isn't even worth a single punch, fight or whatever.

the bloke who died was a red and a proper decent bloke, his son is best pals with my nephew (9 yrs old) that lovely kid has lost his dad to a stupid row.....tragic, rip pal, hope the "city fan" gets his justice
lived at the end of our kids road in Monton

Terribly tragic.

I hate them as much as anybody, but as has already been said, it's only a game and no one should ever lose their life over football.

R. I. P.

Terrible news. I hope they catch the people responsible.

Not having that.
On the law of averages alone, those fuckers are gonna sneak a derby win again, eventually. Tell me then that you don't hate them.
Not, for a millisecond condoning the assault, never mind the tragic consequences, on that Utd lad but for 90 minutes, twice a year, I despise some of my own best friends. Hatred is okay, if you're able to manage it.
