Any of you Twitteristas on here; you know what to do. Before you ask,I'm not on Twitter so I can't take part.
There's no doubt that United have strengthened.
I, like most people, have very little information on Darmian, can't say I've ever heard of him, however you don't get 13 caps for Italy without being a decent enough defender. Those on Rag Café describing him as a "quality" signing are no doubt being pretty disingenuous as I suspect 95% of them have never seen him play a single game.
Depay looks to be an exciting player, however as with Darmian, I suspect many haven't really seen too much of him. United fans should be more than a little concerned that Van Gaal seems intent on trying him out as a striker when he's natural position is attacking from the midfield, and out wide. They'll not see the best of him up top.
Schneiderlin is a very good signing, ticks a lot of boxes for United, but he's not world class. He'll certainly strengthen their midfield though.
Schweinsteiger has a huge reputation, and again he'll be a useful addition. However United fans seem to think they'll be getting Schweinsteiger at his best. No, they won't. He'll be 31 when the season starts and a quick look at his appearances indicates he's not managed to play 30 league games (in a 38 game season, like ours) for Bayern since the 2010-2011 season. In fact out of the 152 league games Bayern have played the last 4 seasons Schweinsteiger has taken part in just 93, that's approx. 60% of games. If that percentage holds true this season then he'll play 22/23 games out of 38! For the wages they'll be paying him (rumoured to be £275k a week) that's a lot of money to pay a guy for 3 seasons that might only reach 70 league appearances, in total, by the time his contract expires!
The additions don't address many of United's squad gaps. Van Persie, Falcao, and likely Hernandez aren't options, so Rooney, Wilson, and Depay out of position are their strikers, in a team that didn't score enough last season. Their keeper may well be leaving, if not this summer then certainly by next summer. Their centre halves are, to a man, underwhelming. Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Blackett, Evans, McNair, none of them are a truly great centre half. United's squad has many holes, so for their fans to claim it's on a par with Chelsea's, or ours, and capable in its current state of mounting a title challenge, is seriously deluded.
Haven't seen United fans claiming their squad is on a par with ours. The deluded fuckwits claim it's much better.United's squad has many holes, so for their fans to claim it's on a par with Chelsea's, or ours, and capable in its current state of mounting a title challenge, is seriously deluded.

I'd pretty much agree with that, although I think they might get a little closer to first in terms of points, but still fall a little short.I think the deluded posters on redcafe aiming for title are just as deluded as some of those on here who think they'll flop massively. They've made a bunch of good signings and have a fairly decent squad, though certainly lacking in certain areas. I predict a solid, but trophyless season. 3rd place, 10 points behind the championship, but 10 points ahead of 4th.
