United Thread 2015/16

I think he gets off quite lightly. The years and years and years we have been talked down to. Its like the school bully you meet later in life, when you are doing well and he's down on his luck. He can't understand why you just pissed all over his unsold copies of Big Issue. I've got well over 50 years of pent up hate to vent.

You know nothing Dari O.

I don't really look at the United forums, they are all a bit of a closed shop, like you need a letter from the pope to get in. I did read a derby thread last year and the majority of posts were pretty complementary about the city players, but that's the distinction I have found. United fans don't dislike City players, or the football club. They dislike City fans. And the reason why they dislike City fans, is because SOME City fans have made it their lives work to destroy anything related to United. It's like a defensive mechanism.

I have lived in Manchester all of my life, and only moved away this year. And City were never on my hate list growing up. I went to a few city games with my School and even attended the Mark Lillis soccer school. City players lived near me, and we respected them. There was no snide remarks or owt like that. The social club at maine road was the venue for many functions when I was growing up, and it was never a problem. I stood on the Stretford end for over a decade, when we were getting turned over by the likes of Derby County! And I was a season ticket holder right up until May 2013, when we lifted the title and Sir Alex called it a day. And I thought to myself at the end of that season, that I've seen everything possible... Platini, Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldo (The brazilian) Messi...won every trophy available to a club side. I was content, and I thought about those days on the Stretford end, when you'd be stood at the back of the stand and we'd score and like some sort of weird surfing experience, you'd be transported 50 feet on a wave of suspended bodies. It was the best feeling ever, and as I looked around at the Norwegian and Chinese tourists with their selfie sticks and ipads, I knew the game was up. I'll always be a United fan, but all that matchday experience, face-painting, jester hats, fanzones, not allowed to stand up, CCTV, do as your told bollix, I'm not paying good money for that shit. And for some of you older folks on here, it's a crime that your footballing fortunes have changed during a period where the corporates have sanitized the experience so much that you can't even throw your arms around the person sitting next to you when your team score.

A post full of cliches and sly digs yet again.I don't know where you lived in Manchester but the hatred was there all the time from both sets of fans.I would fight rags at school,at the ice rink,in the street and later in pubs and clubs.Wearing anything City related was enough to start the jibes and violence and i will admit we repaid it in kind.Complimentary about our club and players?? Listen even your brain dead players like Rooney and camel gob can't resist having digs at our club so we can lay that old toffee to rest straight away!

We weren't a threat to you for 35 years and in the late nineties up until 2008 were so far behind you we would NEVER have caught you up except for the takeover. When we were celebrating promotion against Gillingham and Blackburn and your lot were winning trebles and the likes i remember the rags trying to kick it off with us as we celebrated our measly promotions, that's how low your lot are.

As for the atmosphere although it will probably never be as good as on the terraces we do alright thanks, hey we even all threw our arms around one another and jumped up and down for a while, remember that one?Wembley was particularly good!

Not true, gave the guy next to me on Saturday a big hug after goals three to six whilst sat in the corporate section, having never previously watched a game with him. Although in fairness, I am a 'love the fan you're with' kind of supporter.

I will admit my school days were a long time ago but all my football memories are of games in the playground, games where teams were picked in PE - even cricket teams and other sports - fucking 4 x 100 relay teams for that matter were always blue vs rag. We all had a healthy dislike for each others clubs that spilled over into most other areas of life.

In fact I recall when back at school after the summer holidays if a new kid came up to you and asked you where such and such a class was the first question back was who do you support. The unsuspecting fool had no idea how crucial his answer was to getting to the next class on time. Oldham fans were just fucked anyway ha ha ha

Well, I don't know what area you grew up in, but I only lived a couple of miles away from Maine road. My mates Dad was a huge City fan and he used to take us to matches, and the week after I'd go to Old Trafford with my Dad. My old fella had no problem with me going to City matches, and my mates Dad didn't care that I was a United fan. I stood on the kippax, joined in with the funny songs, except the Munich ones! All the way through school, never a problem with City fans. Not until the 2-3 game at maine road when Keane scored the 3rd and I was chased through Birchfields park by some scrotes in shellsuits. Up until that point, I'd never had any problem with City fans and none had had any issues with me. When I was in school, Alex Williams lived round the corner and Paul Simpson lived directly across from my pal Chris. We used to let on. A fella who's son I used to play football with, was a sportswriter for the daily mirror, and I went to Belle vue dogs for his 50th. I was sat drinking all night with Niall Quinn, Tony Coton and Terry Phelan. We ended up in mini bus to Mulligans in Hale Barnes. Bryan Robson and Dennis Irwin were in there, and they were all obviously drinking companions. Tony Coton sorted me out with Derby tickets. Posted them through our letterbox himself, to the amazement of a neighbour who told me he was still in his goalie training kit, but only driving a ford escort. Different times.

This is my first post. I'm 47 and I have no idea where you get your material from. I was brought up on the Anson Estate and there was always the rivalry. You seem to be an easy-going guy who has no conviction. The fact that your old man had no problem with you going to see both teams points that way as well. Keane was a C*unt by the way who was one of the first to hold your club to ransom for a pay-rise!
