A guy I worked with did the Kilimanjaro thing with Robson and Moran for the Manchester United Foundation and it sounded a right con. Not only did you have to pay handsomely to do it you had to guarantee a specific amount of money to the charity. So basically he had to pay to go and then pay to make up the shortfall in his donations.

Cynically:
Last week, two multimillionaire property developers allowed some people to stay in an empty building that isn't being used for several months.
Yesterday, a football club graciously announced its agreement to allow a large number of people to give money to charity.

This exactly - debt laden organisation piggy backs on an event to become facilitator for an event that allows large numbers of people to donate to charity on their premises. The organisation takes the kudos whilst deducting its own costs incurred as facilitator from those donations - then presumably the "turns" will be paid their "expenses" after all multimillionaires can hardly be expected to be able to afford their own flights and accommodation - then a good chuck of what is left for charities will go to the facilitators own foundation.

Has fucking PR scam written all over it and carved deep into its skin - those morons over there will flock to see Tranny in a rag shirt again and wank themselves stupid at the idea of him and Granny Shagger reunited.

Is it me or is the only great mystery about this is why is it a year too late? Surely this should have been done as a filler during their season in the European wilderness? Suppose idea's take a long time to sink in with the hard of understanding.

This is the basis of all charity treks. You pay some of it to cover costs, and guarantee to raise a certain amount in sponsorship. Nothing out of the ordinary there at all.
