Can anyone remember what the context of the conversation was with the pope? Sure it had some colourful language if the song is correct.

I seem to recall he stated he was not aware of them, and therefore should leave

Us Irish blues would tell you that the Irish rag fans are a joke.They purely picked their team because they won. People 5 years older are all liverpool supporters, because they won at the time. Then they say "we" this and that, despite never seeing them play in person and to say they go missing when they lose is an understatement. How I became a City fan during the dark times I'll never bloody know.

Correct and right. Funny thing is when you meet somebody who supports Stoke, Ipswich or WBA (to name but three in my own experience), they have no issues whatsoever with City's finances. It's only the happy-clappers who get an attack of the vapours over us 'ruining football'.

The Irish team met him during Italia '90, IIRC. And I'd assume that a few Italian national sides have met him down the years.
