Official attendance 71,165. Max capacity 75,635. So, just the 4,000 seats not sold? Yeah, right, and the rest... I know its' misleading to do so, but is it actually illegal I wonder? Surely if there is an issue at the stadium, you can't have the fire wardens looking for a missing 20,000 spectators?
I mean, this isn't just a bad guesstimate of the expected attendance, which I know the clubs have to report and then update again to the police officer in charge prior to kick off, this is blatant misrepresentation of figures on a level that any politician would be proud of. Plus, surely the police charge for their services based on these figures, so by declaring more the Glazers are paying out more, I expect, in order to perpetuate the myth? Is this an investment by them in the image of the club, expecting they'll recoup any costs just by way of popularly sole by being up with the largest declared attendances?
