But what is your business - is it playing football or selling noodles?
If it's playing football then being successful at that is a pre-requisite. And since the GPC retired, you haven't been successful. You've assumed that's just a blip but it's actually a complete failure of your core infrastructure and succession policy. For over 20 years, you had a successful system but relied on just one person to implement that system without making any serious attempt to replicate the processes that made it successful and guide a successor to be able to maintain it.
The core product is Football. However, the sources of revenue are Sponsorship, TV, Ticketing & Merchandise and Prize money.
You are confusing "Product" with "Sources of Revenues".
"Product" is what we offer, "sources of revenues" is how we monetize it.
On the Sources of Revenues we have been successful in both revenues and profit.
On the product front we have suffered because:
1. Succession plan was botched.
2. We need to look for a DOF for continuity and not a manager.
3. LVG is attempting to implant a different philosophy at the club. There were always going to be hurdles.
If he achieves 3rd place then I hope he is retained for the final year.
4. Premier league is more competitive. The extra funding has helped teams like Leicester/Everton/Crystal Palace more than City/Utd/Arsenal.
Eventually our product will have to match the market's (sponsors/fans) expectations.
Or else we are doomed.
