AGENDA! Were the press keeping a lid on what was happening? And which is worse - leaking news before a Cup Final that the manager is to be sacked after the Cup Final (ensuring we don't win it), or waiting tll you've won it and then sacking the manager?

I agree and your response isn't anything to do with what I said

Your reply is teams that have beaten them, I was responding to a cricket score line, everyone has said it nearly every week another team would of scored X y and z. They've been convincingly beaten only a couple of times, we probably have more this season. Not defending their style or play before anyone says I am but it seems it's pointed out most weeks United should of lost, got lucky etc but ultimately won

You seemed to be implying that because they had conceded so few goals 'they must be doing something right.' I was countering that point with the point their defense has conceded so few goals because attacking the opposition is the last thing on Turtle 's mind. I don't think their ability to keep the ball in their own half and bore to death whoever they are playing with turgid, unadventurous football is 'doing something right', regardless of how shit we have been this season.

When they did try to play, they fell apart defensively which highlighted to me there was no ability use their solidity at the back as an effective springboard for attacking play. I don't think they've done very much right this season at all, which also acts to emphasise how shit we have been, but for other reasons.

Oh absolutely but it's easy to say teams should of score

By being cautious they lose something up the other end and lost out to champions league football to a poor lacklustre city side on a huge goal difference.

I don't see their style of play changing much under Jose. His stock is down for me as to how his last 6 months in charge were at Chelsea. Will he start calling United 'a little horse' again with building work he's got on.

Of course but they will improve under Jose it would be naive to think otherwise

Indeed. He is a rag **** regardless.

Language mate, warrants a ban that

The supporters are lapping it up, of course, but that's what football fans do. Most supporters of every club engage in mental gymnastics when it suits, including ours. For me, it's the narrative coming from united as an institution that is going to provide the most interest in the months ahead.

What impact will Mourinho's appointment have on the mood music emanating from the club? united, as an institution, have been keen for a couple of decades to pontificate to the wider footballing world about their distinct qualities as a club. Ferguson, Charlton and all their various foot soldiers in the media, ex-players and journalists alike, are very well drilled in talking about united's much vaunted policy in relation to youth, their attacking style of football, their policy of steadfastly sticking by their managers, as well as the tedious and nebulous "united way", whatever the fuck that is. They've claimed for years those things are all woven into the fabric of the club. Quite frankly, they've bored the rest of us shitless parroting on about it.

Will they still bang the same drum, making themselves appear even more hypocritical and absurd? Or will they stop talking in those terms, pretending those words were never said, quietly placed in a memory hole in the Ministry of Truth? Or will Mourinho come to heel and embrace a...errrr.....footballing philosophy that he's shown scant signs of engaging with to date in the course of his managerial career?

As I've said, in terms of this appointment, I don't think they had a great deal of choice, given where they find themselves, in actual and relative terms. They must realise that in addition to us, clubs like Spurs and West Ham are on the rise and they probably don't have the luxury of time to get back in the top four, given the commercial pressures the club is under to do so, but their words have spectacularly made themselves hostages to fortune.

Just like they did when they kept that banner up for all those years.

Some of our supporters might not like our media MO, but in that department we are reserved and understated in every respect. We don't mouth off about what we're about, what we represent and what we are. There is good reason for this. united have been doing this for years, and when the wind changes, and you've got to shift position and reinvent yourself a little, your previous statements can be rendered obsolete and absurd.

The lack of foresight at that club, when they were drunk on success, was grossly negligent. From Ferguson's succession, to the depletion of their youth set up, through to a hiring and firing culture that now subsists all point to a club that had it all and took its eye off the ball at the worst, or best, possible time, depending on what your viewpoint is.

Their football might not be entertaining anymore, but their decline has so far provided great viewing. Long may it continue.

All morning the TV has been reporting that Mourinho will replace the Turtle. Note the word replace, is that so that the raggies canot be accused of being a sacking club, they replace managers !!

Maureen suits the scum down to the ground, the scum were still doing a lap of honour when Mendez rang the media to tell them he was meeting the rag board next week to discuss the appointment, totally lacking in class, as I say they deserve each other.

I think we have to be realistic about the Mourinho appointment. It will put United at the top table for transfers this summer even without CL football. That's pretty much the only downside I can see. From a footballing perspective, trying to take on Guardiola without a Ronaldo in his side is going to end very very badly for United and Mou.

Expect the bullshit to start in his first press conference too. Anything to distract from his record against Pep.

Mou doesn't have a Ronaldo in his side but equally Pep doesn't have a Messi - so they've a both handicapped at the moment by fairly poor squads compared to their days in Spain. Let's hope we have a good summer recruitment wise.
