United thread 2017/18

I think that Mourinho will leave in the summer to take an international managers role. Possibly immediately after the WC as some country will fire their coach for not getting far enough. Some country that'll pay Jose a fortune.

I just can't see him willing to see out another season at united.

I actually think United are overachieving. Mourinho's teams of past have traditionally had exceptional starting elevens. Like Pep, he's at his best with elite players and getting them that winning mentality.

I mean, if you consider his two stints at Chelsea, and his stints at Inter and Real Madrid you see just how good his players were.

This is the starting eleven of the weakest (of the four) title winning sides, Chelsea 14/15:

Courtois; Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas, Oscar; Hazard, Willian, Costa.

Given I've just called this his weakest previous side, you can see just how far behind United are. How many of this United team would get into this one? De Gea, Pogba and Matic (technically anyway).

The fact is, his players are nowhere near good enough. Excluding Bailly all his defenders are extremely limited. Martial and Rashford are promising but nothing more yet. The rest (e.g. Lingard) would have already been sold. In fact remember he sold two of his current United players whilst at Chelsea, Mata and Lukaku.

The only way this United side are going to seriously be a threat in the future is if they make a load of high quality signings, not just decent squad players. Fortunately for us, I find that they have a habit of signing just as many duds as they sign talents, so it'll take probably at least two summers for them to get to the necessary level. And Mourinho will almost certainly be gone by then, probably leaving the club in a mess in the process.

Yeah a fair few are honest enough to admit it albeit many with backhanded compliments in some cases. The more deluded ones are more fun to read though, i sometimes try to reason as they do but fail immediately.
A joker on the ESPN site claims "they let us win". And they are the "best team in the world".
There must be some bloody good hypnotists among their 659 million followers.

Can anyone actually give me 1 good reason PSG would actually want Peggy?

I know he desperately wants them but why would they take him especially on the back of this season.

He's certainly embraced the culture of the rags wholeheartedly. Cheating on the pitch, intimidation of officials off it, lying, delusion and deflection.

Not to mention being as dignified in defeat as they are in victory..

Capable of winning a cl and there is a fair chance PSG's owners feel a cl win is needed at any cost and that includes Mourinho's anti football.

I personally hope he stays at united another season because i just can't see us weakening at all. I think he knows in his heart of hearts the game is up against Pep when both get the equivalent of a blank canvas with similar resources.

Mourinho may be a twat but he is not thick so i really think he is weighing up another season of him being under Peps boot vs going to PSG right now, as in this very second if he has a moment alone.

redcafe is just fantastic chief torn red rubber arse or something is doing a gold medal floor routine performance in mental gymnastics with ti vu right on his case in silver position currently.
Yes some old dear outside the ground on Sunday was giving out about him not living in Manchester. Apparently he still stays in a hotel but resides officially in London. That in itself indicates far louder than any words what his medium to long term intentions are. Pity if he leaves really as he is moving them backwards.

And the pegs in the dressing room are a fucking disgrace.
Yes it appears that the cups over the last couple of years together with the arrival of PEG has papered over a lot of cracks in the UTD edifice. There is a serious lack of strategic long term planning on both the football and infrastructure front which unless it is addressed quickly may precipitate a long period of decline. In most areas they are not only falling behind City but most of their other main domestic rivals as well. They urgently require new owners who can articulate an alternative progressive vision for the club in the years ahead. Hopefully all those concerned in the hierarchy will fail to do anything about this for a good few years yet.
