United thread 2017/18

We know how they will play the season out. As mentioned, bully lesser teams into submission...which is where the other so-called lesser teams need to be more savvy. For example if brighton and others, play as they did against us at the weekend, no way are united getting a guaranteed win. They would resort to hoof ball.
really Against the top 5 teams jose will shut up shop, play deep and look to nick one from a free kick etc etc......i would take Pep's method anythime over that stagnant shite. They may make top four but they do not have great squad depth and are only a few injuries away from being bang average like last season. As madrid also showed you actually take the game to them, they have poor positional sense and can be cut through with ease.

This is precisely what's going to happen. I'm actually surprised by the hyperbole coming from their sycophants in the broadcast and written media over this performance.
They played with intensity and there's no doubt that Lukaku is a really good signing but they really shouldn't get too carried away. West Ham offered nothing, were miles off the pace and it was a routine win. Let's see how they cope against the better sides.
3 points is all you get for beating any team and their mananger knows this, they will steamroll weaker sides but I just don't see them getting eenough of the ball to dominate games against us, Spurs and Chelsea. The style of play is almost a throwback to the 90's, high tempo, counter attack with wingers and playing percentage crosses into the box. The boy Pogba, although hugely talented, doesn't take the right option enough and he won't get that many opportunites against the better sides.
I can see them finishing fourth or fifth.

Lets not forget PEG plays the same 11 every game, they have a decent first 11 but very average bench. They will struggle.

I think we will improve against the lesser teams that we sometimes dropped points to last year.
Generally the Rags tend to do well against these teams and I expect they won't have as many hiccups this year either.
I think it will come down to our head to heads against the top six.
Win them and we win the league.
It is something we desperately have to improve on anyway.
Beat the Rags, Dippers, Chavs, Spuds and Gooners. Then all is well in the world.

Whilst I tend to agree, my worry is that if we dont put the average teams to bed, beating the rags home and away and getting results against the other top sides might not be enough. As other bluemooners have pointed out, in previous seasons Saturday v Brighton might quite easily have ended in a draw. Whilst I really do think we have fixed this, simply beating the rags home and away won't guarantee us the league. All of that said I am confident that we can win it whilst the rags are just as likely to finish sixth as they are first.

Lukaku was also added - and he seems to be a huge addition. Ibra - as good as he is/was - seems to make teams worse. He walks about the pitch and somehow makes scoring all about passing the ball to him. Ibra out - Lukaku in (assuming that Lukaku can maintain some semblance of form) - makes United far more dangerous.

The Scum will likely be our biggest competition for the title this season.

Who's this walking about in an offside position in the clip?

They won't make top four, never mind sustain a title challenge. When they play better sides they'll be massively exposed. See what happened against Madrid midweek who were two weeks behind them in terms of preparation.
Personally i think they will be right there in the mix. Big strong side he's built there and will be hard to beat.
I really do see it though this time round them & us battling it out.

Why are we bothering with the PL this season? According to most of the coverage since yesterday evening, they were utterly brilliant yesterday. Barca 2011 reincarnated. The league is done and dusted now. We better prioritize the CL.

I agree mate.

CL is all were playing for since they were awarded the domestic treble by proxy. Even a checkatrade trophy trip to Wembley would be a small crumb this year.
