Didn' they spent 12 mil in 89 off a turnover of under 2 mil and that gave them the basis of the 92 team

I seem to recall their 89 team that we beat 5-1 cost £13m
Our team had cost either 1.5 or 2.5 from memory

So if they havent bought their titles which is what we get accused of by plastic rags. Or should I not say where they like us invested in their squad to win trophies, then where did there players come from. You have gone from saying they havent spent alot on their squad using the 96 double squad to fit your arguement to saying they havent bought their titles.

No I wasn't trying to say that. I was responding to someone who said that what they did back then was the equivalent of what City and United spent these last few years put together and that as a corollar, their spending back then was worse than it is now. Not only is that hyperbole, it's inaccurate.

Ofcourse, they spent. And ofcourse consistency in labelling spending as "buying a title" is important. Which is why I don't think us accusing them of buying their titles is fair just as their whinging about our success is a bunch of bitter, desperate, crying.

I mentioned the 96 squad because in another post, one of the posters talked about buying success. The core of that team wasn't necessarily expensive. Just like the core of our team now isn't exactly earth-shatteringly expensive.

We're well coached. It isn't a matter of money buying us the premier league.

Look at the wages as well. Yes Scholes cost nothing to buy. He ended up apparently on 70k a year something like the 5th highest paid player in the league with 2 other utd lads in the top 5

Is it just me who gives posters 5 or 6 posts to understand where they are coming from? Mr Feeny is a typical rag on the wind up. Yes utd did have great sucess but it cost a kings ransom. They did spend at the right time when the PL were selling their product over the world. To try to defend how they brought many of their premiership is really trying to rewrite history.
