But even game changers in our history like Yaya, Tevez and the majority of signings early on came for the money. There would have been no other reason to join us at that point.
I'm not sure that's entirely true, especially in the case of Yaya (when we were further down the line). The money would have been a hugely significant factor, but the pull of being part of something that had the realistic capacity to be iconoclastic would have had its own appeal. Not enough of itself, but perhaps enough to tip the balance when deciding whether to leave a club like Barcelona. Better examples to illustrate your point would have been Robinho or Adebayor.

I would go Yaya, especially when you consider his selfish actions during and since. We also wasn't a Champions League team at that time, he was leaving the best team in the world to play for a team in the Uefa Cup. Only pull I would give him is maybe playing with Kolo but ultimately up until we started winning things and becoming a force players came to us for one reason only. I think we are deluding ourselves if we think them kind of big hitters had different reasons for coming. Nowadays it is completely different.

utd have just announced record turnover the breakdown seems to be £ 590 million total around £ 270 million TV deal up 10% which all clubs will probably post the same percentage £ 210 million commercial revenues 0.5% up a terrible figure, wages of nearly £300 million which is over 50% pretty sure it was 49% last year and profit of £26 million down £ 30 million Dept seems to be rising despite claims they were going to bring it down,
I am sure Pestwich blue can put more meat on this bone but these figures are terrible and will effect utd`s claim to be the biggest club in the world which is based solely on financial might these days, and that will effect the confidence the market has in utd, The cracks are appearing

Didn't Garry Cook insist that while it was definitely true of some players that they came for money, with Yaya it absolutely wasn't, and that he truly bought into it being a long term project?

Debt to the Glazers up and profits down at the Swamp, and thats with no trophy win bonuses!

James Cooper is trying to put a gloss on it on Sky but the fact is its 1 PL and Zero CL in the last 7 seasons (soon to be 8), with an ageing squad, uncertainty with the manager and debts high things are not so rosy in M16!

Just as a side note James Cooper is in fact a big city fan.
I have a friend who goes running with him on a Saturday morning who told me, I was a bit taken aback as he always seemed to be pro utd in his reporting but like a lot of them at sky he's just reading the script and following orders.

It was a swap officially, so rather than transfer fees and (possibly) contractual loyalty payments, each got a big signing on fee instead.

Conveniently, it also allows interpretation room for Sanchez' transfer fee to be recorded as zero for squad valuation, almost always by those who want to represent the Utd squad value as low as possible.

Surely that can't work. Mkhitaryan cost the rags £30 million and had only been at the swamp two years. That must mean that the cost of the transfer payment the rags made to Dortmund hadn't been amortised when he went to Arsenal and therefore still remained a cost on United's books. I once tried explaining this concept to a rag of little brain who just kept repeating that Sanchez was signed for free because he was swapped for Mkhitaryan.

Did Mikhitaryian receive any loyalty payment/severance from them?

No idea, sorry, but I assume it was a quid pro quo - "Arsenal will pay you 10M signing on fee, and you agree to waive anything owed by us in return". Both clubs would probably have made sure any wage difference was covered, and the player was happy.
