The thing is that Kantar Media claimed that this was the number of United followers. As soon as the club got hold of the information they changed the word followers to fans.Via my professional career, I'm more than familiar with marketing research projects, the various methodologies employed and even Kantar Media. All I'll say is that this is the rags throwing Kantar under the bus after being called out. Unless Kantar were given free reign to do whatever they wanted, unchecked (unlikely), or the people at the rags marketing dept were complete imbeciles (to be fair, quite possible), there's no way this number would've made it out, without the rags full blessing.
