This is not how they thought their lives would turn out back when they had every advantage in their favour. Just the opposite.
Hubris is a wonderful thing. After decades of boastful, preening, classless, sneering arrogance and entitlement, they are belatedly learning the hard way that a little humility and the character built by enduring loyalty in difficult circumstances goes a long way. And they have been found wanting.
They are living our lives in reverse. Glorious.
What really kills them is that after years of singing their ‘My old man’ cockney drivel, they know in their heart of hearts that nowadays, all their kids now really want to be City fans.
