No, and rightly so. It's Moss who messed up here. See earlier post from @Alan Harper's Tash, which quotes the law in relation to the drop ball. Yes, two United players, and at least one West Ham player (apart from the one receiving the dropped ball) were within 4 metres of the ball when it was dropped, but it is Moss's fault that he didn't move them back. Fernandes was entitled to take the ball because it was in play as soon as it touched the ground.

But don't let United fans tell you it was a good goal disallowed. The law goes on to say:

As Fernandes was the only one who touched the ball, it wasn't a goal anyway, so he is still thick for not knowing the laws of the game he plays professionally.

Moss though, is completely in the wrong and has even less excuse for not learning the law amendments.
Does this mean then that if Fernandes knew the rules and deflected it in off the keepers foot it would have been a goal?

I’m not sure if Moss blew his whistle before he “scored”. If he did, play was stopped anyway.

It's all pretty immaterial really - just one big collection of people not knowing the laws of the game.

But yeah, if Moss had blown the whistle before Fernandes put the ball in the back of the net, then it would have been no goal. If the goalkeeper had got a touch and the ball entered his net - it should have been a goal.

The goalkeeper should have stepped aside if Fernandes was going it alone. Fernandes should not have scored himself. Moss should have made all the other players retreat 4 metres. He should also have given a goal kick after the ball entered the net.

A right old comedy of errors.
